Florida Gators 2011: 5 Recruits That Will Make an Immediate Impact
Despite struggling through a five and five season, the Gators have a top five recruiting class.
With 11 weeks left until national signing day anything can happen, just look at Matt Elam's flip flop act in 2010. Even though many recruits will continue to take visits and mull over their options, here are five recruits that will likely end up in Gainesville and make an immediate impact.
imediate
RB Mike Davis
1 of 5Four star RB, 5'10'' 200lbs
Davis is the ninth overall running back according to Rivals. Davis is a complete back who has the speed to run outside the tackles, but is not afraid to lower his shoulder and get tough yards up the middle. Davis is also a good receiver out of the back field, and if Charlie Weis has shown anything this season it is that he likes a back who can also catch the ball.
With Jeff Demps and Chris Rainey playing out their final games for the Gators this season, there is a glaring hole left at running back and Davis will help to fill it.
RB Matt Jones
2 of 5Four-star RB, 6'2'' 200 lbs
Jones is currently the 12th rated running back in the class according to Rivals.
Jones is a rare talent who combines power with his massive frame, but still has top end speed. Jones is a one cut and go type of running back who has showed good patience behind the line of scrimmage waiting for a hole to open up.
Davis has missed some time this year with a meniscus tear, and durability could be a concern.
As with Mike Davis, Jones will be asked to come into school and compete alongside Davis and Mike Gillislee for the starting spot at running back.
TE Colin Thompson
3 of 5Four-star TE, 6'5'' 255 lbs
Thompson comes in as the sixth ranked tight end prospect according to Rivals.
Florida will have Jordan Reed, A.C. Leonard and another 2012 recruit Kent Taylor all competing for time at TE but Thompson brings something different to the table. At 6'5'' 255 lbs Thompson is the most polished blocking tight end that Florida will have on their roster. This will distinguish him from the other players at the position and put him in line for early playing time.
WR Nelson Agholor
4 of 5Five-star ATH, 6'2'' 180 lbs
Agholor comes in as the number one rated athlete in the 2012 class according to Rivals.
What makes him different from the other players on this list is that Agholor has yet to commit to a school. Agholor has kept his thoughts pretty close to the vest when it comes to recruiting but it is widely rumored that he will remain in state.
Agholor is a complete offensive threat. Capable of lining up at receiver or running back as well as being a home run threat on special teams. Agholor would be able to step in right away at receiver and also on special teams for the Gators.
OT D.J Humphries
5 of 5Five-star OT, 6'5'' 265 lbs
Humphries is the jewel of Florida's recruiting class to date. The massive offensive tackle comes in as the number one ranked OT and third overall prospect in the 2012 recruiting class according to Rivals.
Humphries will need to add considerable weight to his frame, but he has shown great strength and elite pass blocking ability.
Considering how Florida's offensive line has been exposed this season, Humphries along with fellow 2012 recruit Jessamen Dunker will have the opportunity to step in and start right away.
