Alberto Del Rio Tells Hombre Magazine He Only Plans to Wrestle 5-6 More Years

Katie GregersonNov 15, 2011

As we were told several times over on last night's episode of Monday Night RAW, current WWE Champion Alberto Del Rio is featured on the cover of the latest issue of Hombre Magazine. Apparently, this is a big deal. According to Wikipedia, Hombre is the "only bilingual, upscale national magazine targeting Latin men," with a circulation of 200,000 readers.

Regardless of whether or not you've actually heard of Hombre, the exposure for Del Rio is without a doubt a good marketing move. He is, after all, an "upscale" Latin man, and it's safe to assume that a lot of his fanbase is also Latin men.

In his interview with the magazine, Del Rio discusses the legacy of his family in Mexican wrestling, his lifelong dream to succeed inside the squared circle, his goal to become the first Mexican wrestler to win "everything" in one year... and the fact that he only plans to wrestle with WWE for six more years, tops.

"

H: Do you plan on following in the footsteps on [sic] those like Hulk Hogan and the Rock, who’ve ventured into other forms of entertainment?

ADR: Definitely. Now I’m totally focused on the WWE and my wrestling career, but that’s something I want do. I’m planning to do the WWE for another five or six years, no more than that, and of course if they invite me to do movies, soap operas, whatever, I’m down for it!

"

Now, Del Rio isn't necessarily young, at least when it comes to the professional wrestling business. At 34, if he parts ways with WWE in six years, he will be leaving at the age of 40. Many wrestlers retire not much older than that, and many have even retired younger.

He didn't necessarily say he was "retiring" from wrestling, either, but just that he would be leaving WWE. However, if it's his intention to try to win "everything" in WWE in as short an amount of time as he possibly can, where is he trying to "graduate" to?

He doesn't say anything about going back to MMA.

Moving on to another promotion would make no sense; WWE is the absolute biggest there is.

It just seems a bit odd that Del Rio would already put a time limit on his WWE career when he only debuted last year. Yes, he has had a wrestling career outside WWE, but once you make it to the top there, if you leave, the only way you can go in the world of pro wrestling is down.

Recently, former and current WWE Divas alike have been accused, whether rightfully or not, of using WWE as a launchpad for modeling, music, acting and other entertainment careers. Perhaps we should be wondering the same about Alberto Del Rio.
