John RozumNov 15, 2011

Regardless of how deep your league runs or how many teams make the postseason, if you're barely hanging on to stay alive for the playoffs, this fantasy football piece is for you.

Now, even if you're not is as bad of a position but still are looking for areas to improve and/or gain an edge to make a strong playoff push, then by all means use the following advice to help with your decision making.

All this being said, here is some fantasy football advice heading into Week 11 and briefly thereafter.

Players to Add

John Skelton: QB, Cardinals

In two games Arizona quarterback John Skelton has produced 537 pass yards, four TDs, and an 84.1 rating.

Last week against the Eagles, Skelton threw for 315 yards against the NFL's No. 11 ranked pass defense. If you're in a league that starts two QBs, don't be afraid to put Skelton under center.

Arizona is riding a two-game win streak with him at the helm, so at worst Skleton can provide you with solid depth, imperative when fighting for a playoff spot or surviving the playoffs.

Harry Douglas: WR, Falcons

Even with his 133-yard performance on eight receptions that included one TD last week, it's still easy to overlook Atlanta's Harry Douglas.

Before Week 10, his best game was four catches for 62 yards against the Lions, but nothing the following week.

Nonetheless, Douglas only provides QB Matt Ryan with another reliable receiving target to go along with Roddy White, Julio Jones and TE Tony Gonzalez. Ryan is a lot more fluid in dishing the ball around than most believe, so adding Douglas can only help.

If you need a flex or No. 2/3 wideout, Harry is viable option because his potential is quite high.

Robbie Gould: Kicker, Bears

Yes a kicker, and a damn good one at that. Look, Chicago's offense only goes as running back Matt Forte goes, while QB Jay Cutler has the ability to gun the rock everywhere, including the defense.

That said, Mike Martz's West Coast offense is built around the RB position, much like he did with Marshall Faulk in St. Louis.

Only difference however, is that the Greatest Show on Turf had much better WRs. And with Cutler's reigns being pulled consistently back (but for the right reasons), the Bears stall more often than not inside opposing territory.

In turn, Gould is virtually flawless as he's 3-for-3 from 50-plus yards and has 20 total FGs on the year. Kickers are a lot more valuable and useful than most believe; they just go overlooked because they're kickers.

General Advice

Defenses

First off, don't feel obligated to limit yourself to just one defense.

Having a second defense can really provide you with the better chance of matching up properly with not only your opponent, but in regards to the projected number of points.

If you limit yourself to one defense, you may be restricting some hidden points that another defense is scoring.

Multiple Players of the Same Team

This is one area that can really give you a major advantage, but at the same time be just as damaging. Whoever you start at QB, starting one of his WRs isn't always the wrong decision.

Now, they're not going to be in perfect synchronization every game, but you can rack up some major points if they connect more often than not.

As for those who are barely hanging on, this is the quickest way to catch up. You' get the yards and TDs from both players, and it becomes a major boost to your point totals. Also, don't be afraid to start a QB and a RB from the same team.

Any team needing a win will run the ball but also have a balanced attack; then there's also the chance of a few screen-passes or check-downs.

Injured Studs

Obviously if one of your stud players goes out for the year ,you must drop him. However, if one of your best players goes down and is out indefinitely, don't jump the gun on dropping them.

Texans WR Andre Johnson may be the best example. We know that, according to NFL.com, he's bound to return at some point and, according to ESPN, although Houston is without Matt Schaub under center now, you have to expect that Matt Leinart's safety outlet will be to just throw it up and let Johnson go get it.

Andre Johnson may not score an insane number of points, but you will have saved yourself the frustration of starting another WR that barely does anything.
