WWE Survivor Series 2011: 10 Possible Twists to the Rock/Cena vs. Miz/R-Truth

Drake OzNov 16, 2011

The Rock and John Cena will team up at Survivor Series to face The Miz and R-Truth, and the widespread expectation is that "The Most Charismatic Tag Team of All-Time" will wipe the floor with the Awesome Truth.

It's really not all that surprising, given that The Rock and Cena are two of the WWE's biggest stars ever and they've both already singlehandedly destroyed The Miz and Truth.

But I actually don't see it happening in this "everybody's happy" way in which The Rock and Cena work together to win the match and then shake hands afterward.

There are a number of surprising twists and turns that this historic bout featuring The Rock and Cena taking on The Miz and Truth can take, and we're going to look at those today.

Here are 10 shockers we could see during this epic encounter at Sunday's Survivor Series pay-per-view.

Note: I'm listing these in order from least likeliest to likeliest, in my opinion.

10. The Miz Turns on R-Truth (or Vice Versa)

1 of 10

Neither of these options makes much sense to me.

The Miz has been one of the WWE's most hated heels for a year now, and R-Truth is 10 times better as a heel than he ever was as a baby face.

Having either guy turn on the other one at Survivor Series would presumably mean that one of them would have to turn face, and that would be a big mistake on the WWE's part.

I think Miz and Truth are going to stick together until around the Royal Rumble (when one eliminates the other), so I can't see either star joining forces with The Rock and John Cena on Sunday.

Then again, you never really know what's going to happen, do you?

9. Cena Takes the Pin, the Rock Helps the Miz and Truth Destroys Cena

2 of 10

The exact finish of the match in this situation is irrelevant, but the basic gist is that John Cena gets pinned (even if it isn't clean) and takes the loss for his team.

The Rock—so incensed by the fact that Cena caused his team to lose—would then proceed to join The Miz and R-Truth in a post-match beatdown of "The Champ."

The tricky part here is whether this means The Rock stays face or turns heel. I still think it could be the latter because the heel-friendly crowd in Madison Square Garden would probably cheer The Rock for doing so.

Nonetheless, it would still be interesting to see The Rock join forces with Miz and Truth for a few minutes, even if he proceeded to lay them both out with Rock Bottoms once they took care of Cena.

8. Rock Loses, Cena Joins the Miz and Truth in Post-Match Beatdown of Rock

3 of 10

This is essentially the exact same situation as the last slide, only The Rock and John Cena switch roles.

The Rock loses, Cena gets pissed and he helps The Miz and R-Truth beat the holy hell out of The Rock following the match.

If Cena were to simply beat down The Rock and then leave, this would probably lead to a Cena heel turn. But if Cena beats the crap out of The Rock, The Miz and Truth, then it would likely mean Cena remains a baby face.

Either way, though, I think Cena would gain a lot of respect from older fans if he showed a little heel in him by attacking The Rock, who will undoubtedly get the biggest baby face pop at Madison Square Garden.

7. The Rock Walks Out on Cena During the Match

4 of 10

Let's say for a second that John Cena is in the ring for the majority of the match, and he gets absolutely destroyed by The Miz and R-Truth.

Does The Rock try to help Cena, or does he give up on him and walk out of the arena?

In all likelihood, it will be the first option, but it would be fun to see what would happen and how the crowd would react if The Rock got so fed up with Cena's performance in the ring that he walked out on him.

The crowd might boo, or it might cheer. Who knows.

But it leaves the door open for Cena to criticize The Rock for "walking out on the WWE again" and would presumably make The Rock the heel in this feud.

6. The Rock Refuses To Tag In until the End of the Match

5 of 10

Whereas The Rock might get a ton of heat for walking out on John Cena, I don't think that would be the case if he refused to tag in until the end of the match.

The idea is that The Rock wants to see how good Cena is and whether or not he's "super" enough to win the match on his own.

It would add an interesting dynamic to see Cena desperately trying to get the tag to The Rock, but The Rock consistently avoiding it until the last possible second.

Then, The Rock would finally give Cena the tag, enter the ring, hit his signature moves and get the victory for their team.

This would allow The Rock to rip Cena for his pathetic performance while simultaneously bragging about how it took only a minute or two for him to do what Cena couldn't.

5. Cena Walks Out on the Rock Mid-Match

6 of 10

If the WWE wants to truly create some buzz around its product, then having John Cena walk out on The Rock mid-match would be a great way to do that.

As The Rock takes the baby face beatdown, Cena could get frustrated, walk up the ramp and then leave the arena. The crowd would be expecting him to change his mind and come back, either to save The Rock from a post-match attack or to help him win the match.

But, lo and behold, Cena would never return to the arena, The Rock would lose, and he would then get destroyed by The Miz and R-Truth following the match.

Instantly, Cena becomes one of the most hated men in the WWE for doing an incredibly dishonorable thing by abandoning his tag team partner.

What? I can dream, can't I?

4. Cena Refuses To Tag In

7 of 10

The same exact situation as Slide No. 6, but with John Cena and The Rock reversing roles.

The Rock takes the beatdown from The Miz and R-Truth, and The Rock tries like hell to make the tag to Cena, but he refuses for most of the match.

It's only at the last possible second, when The Rock looks like he's about to lose, that Cena finally makes the tag, enters the match, quickly takes care of Miz and Truth and then gets the victory for their team.

Much like the similar situation with The Rock, it would give Cena bragging rights over The Rock but wouldn't necessarily mean that Cena has to turn heel.

3. The Rock or Cena Purposesly Distracts the Ref To Make Their Team Lose

8 of 10

What's stronger, the hate that John Cena and The Rock have for each other or their desire to win?

If it's the desire to win, then both men will do everything possible to get the victory, even it means helping one of their most bitter enemies.

If it's the hatred they have for each other, however, then both guys might be willing to take a loss if they're able to make the other one look bad in the process.

So, let's just imagine that The Rock is in the ring, Cena purposely distracts the referee and then The Miz and R-Truth are able to get the victory.

Or vice versa.

That would certainly make whichever guy gets screwed over incredibly furious, and it would add a new dimension to a feud that's already pretty damn intense.

2. Cena Hits the Rock with an AA and Causes Their Team to Lose

9 of 10

The Rock is in the ring with R-Truth when all hell breaks lose, and all four competitors make their way into the ring.

As the referee ushers The Miz to the corner to stop the chaos, The Rock turns around and gets hit with a huge Attitude Adjustment by John Cena, allowing Truth to cover him for the victory.

The crowd would be absolutely stunned.

In a surprising twist of fate, Cena will have screwed over The Rock instead of trying to win the match, and he would undoubtedly be drowned in boos by the Madison Square Garden crowd.

"The Champ" would have a lot of explaining to do on Raw the next night, and depending upon his explanation and tone of voice, a heel turn could be in the works.

1. The Rock Hits Cena with a Rock Bottom and Causes Their Team To Lose

10 of 10

While I could see John Cena turning on The Rock at Survivor Series, I think it's much more likely that the exact opposite will happen.

Cena's always been a "Goodie Two Shoes, I want to win in an honorable way" type of guy. But The Rock's always been a bit of a rebel, someone who would forgo a victory if it meant making his bitter enemy look bad.

Perhaps that's why I think, if either star turns on the other on Sunday, it'll be The Rock who hits Cena with a Rock Bottom and allows The Miz and Truth to get the victory.

Whereas the fans would boo Cena if he did something similar, they'd probably cheer The Rock.

Sometimes, that's just the way the cookie crumbles.
