Penn State Scandal: Sandusky's Denial Only Adds More Fuel to This Raging Fire
Things aren't getting any better for Penn State or its football team as former defensive coordinator Jerry Sandusky spoke last night. As we all know, Sandusky is accused of allegedly molesting young boys and faces serious consequences if found guilty.
He spoke last night with Bob Costas and had some interesting things to say that didn't really make things any easier for Penn State or their football program.
"I am innocent of those charges," the 67-year-old Sandusky said. "... I could say that I have done some of those things. I have horsed around with kids. I have showered after workouts. I have hugged them, and I have touched their legs without intent of sexual contact."
Everybody will have their own thoughts and feelings on what those comments mean, but it doesn't sound good if you're looking from afar. If you're not associated with Penn State, you're looking at this case from a distance, knowing that things will get much worse before they get better.
When asked if he was sexually attracted to underaged boys, Sandusky replied, "Sexually attracted, no. I enjoy young people, I love to be around them, but, no, I'm not sexually attracted to young boys."
He denied everything, including what Mike McQueary and a janitor claimed they saw in the report.
"We were showering and horsing around, and he actually turned all the showers on and was actually sliding across the floor, and we were, as I recall, possibly like snapping a towel—horseplay," he said.
It seems like Sandusky is trying to cover up the reports with some childish excuses. Is anybody really going to believe that comment?
I understand Sandusky is innocent until proven guilty so of course he is going to deny everything, but this just adds fuel to the fire for Penn State and their football program. The interview didn't help take some of the heat off this football team that will be traveling on the road for the next two weeks.
I can only imagine what type of tasteless comments this team will endure going into Ohio State this weekend and Wisconsin after that.
It's going to get worse before things get better and this interview proved that.
