Penn State Scandal: Jerry Sandusky's NBC Interview Adds Fuel to the Fire for PSU
As if the Penn State scandal couldn't get any worse, Jerry Sandusky's telephone interview with NBC on Monday night brought even more negative light to the situation at hand for the Nittany Lions.
The scandal that led to the firing of Joe Paterno was all anyone could talk about last week, especially since Penn State students were rioting, and some people were giving out threats to receivers coach Mike McQueary, a key witness in the case.
So when Bob Costas spoke to Sandusky over the phone, many were hoping it wouldn't lead to even more terrible things for Penn State.
Unfortunately, once Sandusky began answering questions, the Nittany Lions' suffering continued.
If you haven't seen the interview, here it is in it's entirety.
Sandusky claiming he is innocent should come as no surprise. However, stating he "shouldn't have showered with those kids" doesn't help his situation, and it certainly hinders Penn State since the alleged claims were that he was showering in the Penn State locker rooms with young boys.
No grown man should ever horse around with young boys in the showers. There is no reason for Sandusky to be there, as well as touching their legs and rubbing them.
Sandusky trying to justify the allegations is absolutely pathetic, and those at Penn State have to be outraged by what he said in the interview.
The former Penn State defensive coordinator was arrested on November 5 on 40 counts for allegedly molesting young boys, some of which he met through his charity, Second Mile.
He was released on $100,000 bail, and since his arrest, The New York Times is reporting that "close to 10 additional suspected victims have come forward to the authorities."
Just listening to his voice you can tell Sandusky is very weak, and he likely has a team of lawyers surrounding him for help as the questions are being asked.
Still, though, he makes poor choices in his answers, and it is now easy to see this scandal isn't going away anytime soon.
The Twitter world has had so much thought on the scandal, and once the Sandusky interview was known, everyone again shared their opinion on the matter.
One tweet that really showcases how bad this interview was for Penn State and how awful Sandusky is came from Zach Klein of WSB in Atlanta.
Dodging around that question is proof that Sandusky never should have done the interview, as it did more harm than good.
If you watched the video, you know that prior to that question, it took Sandusky less than a second to say no to being a pedophile.
The question of being sexually attracted definitely threw Sandusky off, but if he was truly innocent, one would think he would be better prepared to handle a question like that.
If the allegations are indeed false, it should not have taken him so long to deny being sexually attracted to young boys.
Nothing seems right about Sandusky, and this interview brings more turmoil towards Penn State, which is something the school doesn't need considering how awful the last week has been.
Penn State will remain in agony every time Sandusky speaks, and with his trial almost a month away, things aren't looking up.
They say time heals all wounds, but this scandal itself will take an extremely long time to unfold, which only means the Nittany Lions are in for a world of hurt longer than they can imagine.
