Is Tuesday's Germany-Holland Friendly a Preview of the 2012 Euro Final?

Joe TanseyNov 14, 2011

Germany and Holland, two of Europe's top national teams, square off at the Imtech Arena in Hamburg, Germany in a possible preview of the final at the 2012 European Championships next summer in Poland and Ukraine.

Germany ran rampant through Group A in Euro 2012 qualified winning all ten of their games and earning qualification but they have struggled in recent friendlies with both of the hosts of next year's tournament.

Die Mannschaft have gotten production from young players like Toni Kroos, Andre Schurrle and Thomas Muller while experienced players like Mario Gomez have also made a major contribution to the scoring.

Gomez's Bayern Munich teammate Manuel Neuer is becoming one of the premier goalkeepers in the world and could reach the top five keepers in the world with a strong performance at Euro 2012.

One key player that is missing from the Germany roster is Bastian Schweinsteiger, who is out injured at the moment and taking his spot on the roster is youngster Marco Reus of Borussia Monchengladbach who is looking to break into Joachim Low's squad for next summer as well.

On the Dutch side, the Oranje only lost one game during Euro qualifying to Sweden and are coming off a goal-less draw with Switzerland on Friday.

Bert van Marwijk's squad is full of in-form players, with Robin van Persie and Luuk de Jong up front and Rafael van der Vaart and Wesley Sneijder, two of the Oranje's top midfielders, also in form as well,

In goal, the two backups to Roma's Maarten Stekelenburg, Swansea City's Michel Vorm and Newcastle's Tim Krul are having very good seasons as well.

The Dutch squad is without stars like Arjen Robben and Ruud van Nistelrooy but still boasts a ton of experience led by captain Mark van Bommel.

Both Germany and Holland will feature stars that will be shining bright during the European Championships next summer, but a quality match between the two clubs could give fans a preview of the Euro 2012 final.

First, Germany must avoid Holland in the draw as the Dutch are in Pot 1 alongside Spain, Poland and Ukraine. The Germans will most likely be placed in Pot 2 and if they are able to advance into the knockout round, they could avoid Holland until the semifinals or even the final throughout the tournament.

Both nations will be favorites to win the European Championships alongside Spain and Tuesday's match will be a preview of what is to come when the top 16 nations reach Poland and Ukraine this summer.
