Mick Foley: 7 Possible Opponents for Him at WWE WrestleMania 28

Imaan JalaliNov 14, 2011

In a recent interview he took part in, Mick Foley revealed two things: He has one match left in him, and the one superstar he'd like to go toe-to-toe with is The Miz.

There are several reasons why a Mick Foley-Miz encounter at WrestleMania 28, perhaps, would make a lot of sense, which you can read about here.

That being said, there are seven other individuals, besides the "awesome" one, who would also be viable opponents for "The Hardcore Legend" at WrestleMania.

Some of these possible choices are men who can use the blockbuster pairing to take the next step in their careers, whereas others would be ideal choices for a marquee match on the WWE's grandest stage.

Suffice to say, whoever he faces, Mick Foley is practically guaranteed to lose, which is not a cause for concern because his legacy is untouchable. In this case—like many comparable examples before—his opponent, however, will have everything to gain.

Dolph Ziggler

1 of 7

Dolph Ziggler is a man of "perfection," who has in a short period of time risen to become arguably the best wrestler in the company.

As the current U.S. champion, there are very few who have his panache and kinetic style in the ring.

Nobody would argue that the man whose look and repertoire is inspired by Curt Hennig would have nothing to gain in a potential match with Foley.

Foley's face being "zig-zagged" into a pile of thumbtacks would make Ziggler into a star like Triple H, Randy Orton and Edge, who took full advantage of their classics with the hardcore icon.

R-Truth

What does Foley see in The Miz that he doesn't see in his tag partner R-Truth?

Since first making his name as K-Kwick in the early part of a decade as a WWF superstar, Ron Killings made the transition to TNA Wrestling, where he sowed his wrestling oats.

Upon making his grand return to the WWE as R-Truth, he has acquired the ability to make fans laugh, squirm and cower in fear all in one 15-minute segment.

There isn't anybody more intense than the maniacal R-Truth, who can use a triumphant victory against Mick Foley to cement himself as a commodity.

Not to mention the back-and-forth promos between he and Foley would be incredibly warped if not deliriously entertaining.

CM Punk

3 of 7

Leading up to a potential 'Mania match, CM Punk and Mrs. Foley's baby boy could have a very intriguing feud.

For instance, Punk could accuse Foley of being a part of the old-guard, as one of many who refuse to give up the taste of glory.

Also, if there's anything Punk hates, it's wrestlers who pander to the status quo, which Foley is an egregious example of.

A match between the two would be a contest between today's unlikely star and yesteryear's—two men who, as effective as they are in the ring, forged their reputations on a cult of personality.

The Undertaker

4 of 7

The Undertaker wouldn't need a win against Mick Foley per se, but if the clash were to happen at WrestleMania, the undefeated streak would likely remain unblemished.

A Foley-Undertaker match would be a callback to their legendary encounters in 1996 and 1997, culminating in their epic Hell in a Cell match that is still talked about nearly 15 years later.

If Shawn Michaels could renew his historic rivalry with the "Dead Man," why can't Foley?

And while they've squared off on a plethora of occasions in the past, a bout between the two would be both nostalgic and fresh to the past and current generation of WWE followers.

Mark Henry

5 of 7

With the exception of CM Punk, "The World's Strongest Man" is the biggest story of 2011. After 15 years of languishing in mediocrity and being the poster boy of unfulfilled potential, Mark Henry finally grabbed the big brass ring.

His feuds with Randy Orton and The Big Show have legitimized him as a formidable star in the WWE Universe, but if there is one man who can cement his status forever, it's Mick Foley.

Granted, Foley would have to be willing to be a recipient of corporal punishment against the current world heavyweight champion, who is incognizant of his own strength.

Assuming Foley will sacrifice his body for one more go-around, a match between the two would hearken back to Foley's car-wreck collisions with Big Van Vader in WCW.

Wade Barrett

6 of 7

Formerly the leader of one of the WWE's most destructive stables—The Nexus—Wade Barrett was primed and ready to not only be the head of his army, but the baddest man in the WWE.

However, once his group disintegrated and he was exiled to SmackDown, Barrett has struggled to reacquire the momentum he was riding on during his stay on Raw.

Nevertheless, Barrett has the presence of a main-event star, the promo ability of a headliner and the look of a classic heel.

A legend on the microphone like Mick Foley would be able to tap into the intangible qualities of a man—Barrett—who was the company's hottest act only one year ago.

If their match at WrestleMania comes to fruition, Barrett will have the match of his career and a future he can thank the best-selling New York Times author for.

Christian

7 of 7

Similar to Mark Henry, Christian reached the pinnacle of his career this past year at Extreme Rules, becoming the world heavyweight champion.

However, unlike Henry, after outshining Alberto Del Rio in a ladder match for the vacant title, "Captain Charisma" has been floundering to rediscover his place and footing in the WWE.

A long, drawn-out feud with Randy Orton is to blame, which resulted in Christian essentially becoming the "Viper's" whipping boy.

In just a matter of months, Christian was stripped of his reputability and credibility as a heel, thrown off course from the stairway to ultimate success.

Like his former tag team partner, Edge—who punched his one-way ticket to the promised land after spearing Mick Foley into the depths of hell at WrestleMania 22—Christian could use more of the same.
