5 Reasons Why You Would Support Pacquiao If He Fights Mayweather
Yesterday, the third installment into the Manny Pacquiao and Juan Manuel Márquez rivalry closed as we saw "Pac-Man" take another victory. Another very, very tight fight occurred and we fans were not disappointed with it.
What we're actually disappointed is with the result. It seemed rather clear that Márquez had won this fight; yet, this is just an opinion and we can really leave that result to the professionals.
Right after the fight, I logged onto Facebook to catch up on my friends' intake of the fight. When I had seen Pacquiao's post on his victory, I instantly clicked on it to view comments of fans and haters all over the world.
Some praised him, others insulted him. They called him a cheater.
I don't believe at all that he cheated in any way, shape, or form. So why call him a cheater? By viewing this, I believe he has either: 1. Lost respect of fans or 2. Called overrated because he could not take down a 38-year-old Márquez.
Yes, I truly believe he is the best boxer in the world at this moment; however, it's pretty clear Márquez is the only fighter good enough to solve the amazing fight techniques in Pacquiao. And that's what happened.
Another 12 rounds hard fought and definitely, Márquez was pissed off. At the post-fight interviews, Pacquiao seemed rather shocked at the decision and you could hear how his voice was shaky at the sounds of the fans booing him.
Then the main question was asked: "Will you fight Floyd "Money" Mayweather Jr?" Manny answered "Let's make it happen."
And that's when I got to thinking: if I didn't support Manny in this fight, why would I do it against Mayweather? Well, that's rather easy.
Here are the five main reasons why I will support Manny all the way till the end of their fight.
5. Manny's Rise
1 of 5Pacquiao's rise to stardom and global icon is a rather fascinating.
He had to drop out of high school because of extreme poverty and soon after moved out of his house since his mother could no longer support having him around. He had to sell cigarettes around the Philippines to make money in order to pay for his boxing lessons.
Soon enough he comes and takes over the world's minds! Comparisons drawn to Muhammad Ali and other greats received undying respect.
From selling in the streets to having a huge company like Nike sponsor him, Manny's rise is an unusual, great one.
4. He Is a Nice Guy
2 of 5It's evident that he is a really nice guy. He may not be the most humble, however he loves giving us, the fans, what we want:a great fight from him or a dominating performance. He loves to entertain people and he obviously does that.
Think seven years ago: Pacquiao vs Márquez 1. The first round seemed as if it was all over for Márquez. That was then the start to this tremendous trilogy and he never ever displeased after that.
Or how about the fight against Ricky Hatton? In two rounds it was all over. Sixty bucks down the drain for something I bet you can watch on YouTube.
If he correctly pursues his political career, he could end up being the President to his homeland, the Philippines. He basically is the pride, the heart, and the soul of that nation. He captured their imagination and swept the minds of everyone else all over the world.
3. He's Not Fighting a Mexican
3 of 5Or anyone from another country that isn't the US. Easily, any nation presents pride when it's time for their hometown man to fight. In this case, it was Márquez. I'm Mexican and obviously in this fight I was rooting for Márquez even if I do like Pacquiao a lot.
Against Mayweather, he'll be fighting an American. One would think everyone here would be on Mayweather's side, but he isn't the most charming guy around.
Race is still a big thing here in the world, so maybe a lot of Americans and African-Americans would be cheering on Mayweather while Pacquiao has most of Asia on his side.
Since, no Mexican presents himself in this fight, it's rather tough to figure out who'd we be rooting for. Maybe with the decision last night, Pacquiao didn't win over or keep too many Mexicans around the world.
2. Mayweather Is Cocky, Arrogant, Etc.
4 of 5Mayweather has a reputation for saying what he wants. He doesn't necessarily walk around like he's the best, nonetheless this guy is a bigmouth.
For one, he wanted to retire even before he fought Pacquiao. That's like Lakers' superstar, Kobe Bryant, retiring before he could face LeBron James from the Miami Heat. This would have left so many questions that would remain unanswered forever.
Next, he through a cheap shot against Victor Ortiz. Yeah, Ortiz did get carried away with the headbutt, yet Ortiz realized his jeopardizing mistake and even apologized to the ref and Mayweather.
When Oritz was basically saying, "Are we good to fight?" Mayweather took this to his advantage because he knew Ortiz had his number. He threw that sucker punch knocking out Ortiz. The ref didn't even do anything about this!
Like my first reason says, Pacquiao is a nice, likeable man; Mayweather isn't really.
1. Pound-for-Pound, the World's Best Boxer
5 of 5Really there's not much I can say that you don't already know. His punches are by far some of the fastest out there. His will is really unmatched by any other boxer who isn't Márquez.
To this date, we only know that Márquez is the toughest guy to have fought Pacquiao. Is Mayweather to other? Well, that's what we want to know. I certainly can't wait for this brawl to go down.
