BCS Standings: What's the Mood of the Nation on a Potential Rematch?
The BCS standings are out, run and tell everybody, the BCS standings are out! And what do we have here? Not one potential rematch from LSU’s regular season, but two potential rematches.
With the latest BCS standings unveiled, it left little to no surprise for the teams in the top five.
We all knew that the top three teams were going to be: LSU, Oklahoma State and Alabama. After that, seeing Oregon at No. 4 and Oklahoma at No. 5 should not have come as a shock. After Oregon’s blowout victory last night over Stanford, it was a no-brainer decision to move them ahead of the idle Sooners.
Speaking of the fallen Cardinal, if you were wondering where they fell to, it was to ninth. And if you wanted one play to sum up Stanford’s night last night, it would have been this: failed field goal.
Yup, it was one of those nights last night. And because of that, they can now kiss their chances at a BCS bowl game and Rose Bowl appearance goodbye.
However, let’s turn our attention to the Twitter reaction of the BCS standings. With the primary reaction being the likelihood of LSU meeting either Alabama or Oregon in the BCS National Championship Game on Jan. 9 in the Superdome.
There is this tweet that advocates a playoff system if Alabama would move up to the No. 2 spot in the last BCS standings.
Would they be advocating a playoff if these two SEC West teams would meet in the BCS National Championship game?
It’s hard to believe that would be the case, as both teams can make the argument that they are the best in college football. We wouldn’t be having this conversation if one of these teams played in the ACC or Big 12. But, because they share the same division in the same conference, we want to throw up the conspiracy flag and say that it is unfair to the other one-loss teams.
But Gregg Doyel sent out this tweet about the rematch of LSU’s first game of the season against the Oregon Ducks.
Where are the people crying that it isn’t fair for Oregon to get another crack at LSU? They are silent because Oregon lost in the first week and play in the Pac-12. If you don’t want to see Alabama get another shot at LSU, then why would you want to see LSU play Oregon again?
Finally, we have a tweet about what the opening line would be if LSU and Alabama would meet again.
First reaction when reading that has to be, “Really?”
Really, an undefeated LSU, who held the Alabama offense to zero touchdowns on the road, is an underdog in the championship game. A LSU team that, if they play this hypothetical game, will be in front of their screaming fans in the New Orleans Superdome.
I personally do not see how this line would be minus two points in favor of Alabama, but those Vegas oddsmakers are a lot smarter than you or me.
But, LSU versus Alabama/Oregon is all a pipe-dream right now. Our championship game is LSU versus Oklahoma State as of the latest BCS standings. If Oklahoma State can win out, then all of these tweets speculating about playoff systems or conspiracies mean nothing.
Or maybe the poll voters put Oklahoma over Alabama and Oregon with a win against Oklahoma State on Dec. 3.
That would be a jerk move wouldn’t it?
