BCS Rankings: 3 Teams That Will Benefit Most from Week 12 Wins

Adam SpencerNov 13, 2011

This weekend, college football featured a couple of big victories for teams that are trying to move into position for better bowl games.

When the BCS rankings are released Sunday night, there will be a few teams that will be very happy with the jumps they’ve made in the course of a week.

Let’s take a look at the three teams that will benefit the most from their big victories this weekend.

No. 7 Oregon (53-20 win over No. 4 Stanford)

Oregon’s big victory over Andrew Luck and the Cardinal assures it a spot in the BCS top five.

The Ducks will probably jump to No. 4 in the polls after No. 5 Boise State fell this weekend (more on that later).

Oregon looked really good with QB Darron Thomas and RB LaMichael James clicking on all cylinders.

The team probably won’t get to the BCS title game, but it should have no problem beating up on whichever Big Ten team makes it to the Rose Bowl.

No. 9 Clemson (31-28 win over Wake Forest)

By avoiding an upset at the hands of the Demon Deacons, the Tigers have positioned themselves for a big jump in the BCS rankings.

With losses from Stanford and Boise State this weekend, the Tigers should at the very least move up to No. 7 this week.

Then, if Clemson can keep winning, it could find itself in the top five by year’s end. After all, No. 8 Arkansas still has to play No. 1 LSU and No. 6 Oklahoma still has to play No. 2 Oklahoma State.

Everything appears to be lining up quite nicely for the Tigers.

Now all they have to do is continue taking care of business.

TCU (36-35 win over No. 5 Boise State)

Boise State should really find itself a kicker. Missed field goals have derailed the Broncos' national championship hopes two years in a row now.

The Horned Frogs will jump back into the BCS rankings after this big upset victory.

This team isn’t as good as it was last year after losing Andy Dalton and some key members of the defense, but they keep getting the job done.

TCU is undefeated in Mountain West play and should be the eventual conference champion.

The team won’t make it to a BCS bowl game, but this win will put it in a much better bowl than it would have gone to with a loss.
