UFC on FOX: Were the Ratings What the UFC Had Hoped For?
The Ultimate Fighting Championship made its broadcasting television debut last evening on the FOX Network that featured heavyweight champion Cain Velasquez vs. the No. 1 contender, Junior dos Santos.
While Velasquez may have been the champion heading into the main event of the evening, he certainly wasn't when all was said and done.
In fact, it took dos Santos just 64 seconds into Round 1 to land one of the biggest blows in UFC history.
Dos Santos connected on a huge right that sent Velasquez to the ground, where he finished him from there.
While dos Santos may have dethroned the unbeaten Velasquez, there were mixed emotions from fans and viewers across the globe.
One thing the UFC had hoped for was a fight that would last longer than just a minute.
However, that wasn't the case as those watching got to see just one fight that lasted a whopping one minute and four seconds.
But fortunately for the UFC, it didn't affect the outcome of those who tuned in, as it was recently revealed that UFC on FOX 1 was the most viewed UFC event of all time.
Statistics also revealed that UFC on FOX 1 was the most watched professional fight of any kind on television since 2003.
It's fair to say that the ratings exceeded the UFC's expectations as they'll look to move forward to their next FOX broadcast in early 2012.
