WWE Survivor Series 2011: Will Triple H Make a Surprise Return at the PPV?

Drake OzNov 14, 2011

Survivor Series is almost upon us, but one man has been noticeably absent from the build up toward the pay-per-view: Triple H

The Game is currently out of action with a storyline injury, and he has Kevin Nash to thank for it.

The WWE COO has suffered a concussion and a fractured vertebrae from the two sledgehammer attacks he received from Kevin Nash on Raw SuperShow. Amann told WWE.com that The Game will be out of action for at least six weeks due to the injuries he sustained. The diagnoses were made at the Austin, Texas, medical facility that Triple H was rushed to after the attacks.

For any mathematically challenged folks out there, that means that Triple H—at least at the moment—is scheduled to miss out on Survivor Series.

But is he really going to? I highly doubt it.

The ongoing saga between Triple H and Nash extends all the way back to SummerSlam, when Nash returned out of the blue, attacked CM Punk and opened the door for Alberto Del Rio to cash in his Money in the Bank briefcase and win his first WWE Championship.

Initially, Nash’s attacked seemed to be leading toward a program between he and Punk, and in fact, the two were even penciled in for a match at Night of Champions before it was scrapped. Through everything—Nash texting himself for some reason, John Laurinaitis being named Raw’s interim general manager, etc.—Nash’s beef with both Punk and Triple H has been cut in half.

We’re now down to just Nash vs. Triple H. And if you think that Triple H isn’t going to appear at Survivor Series, then you’re sadly mistaken.

Triple H will be there. Better yet, he has to be there.

I don’t say that because I desperately want to see Nash wrestle Triple H in singles action or those two guys captain five-man teams against one another. In fact, my feelings toward this Nash/HHH rivalry can be summed up with one word: Indifference.

I say that Triple H has to make his return to TV at Survivor Series, however, because the WWE has invested far too much time in this feud to not have some sort of payoff at the 25th anniversary of one of the company’s biggest pay-per-views.

Not surprisingly, Triple H has been the main focus of Monday Night Raw—and to some extent, the entire WWE—since he took over as C.O.O. He feuded with the company’s hottest star (CM Punk), he got involved in the main event at Hell in a Cell and he teamed with Punk at Vengeance.

Triple H has gotten more TV time over the last few months than Randy Orton. More than John Cena. More than anybody.

And wherever Triple H is, you know that Kevin Nash is close by.

These two men, especially Triple H, have dominated Raw from the moment that Triple H made his return to TV. We’ve seen countless Triple H promos, a few from Nash, highlight packages galore and Triple H wasting his “special occasion” matches for two B-level pay-per-views.

All for what? So that he and Nash can collide head-on at Survivor Series, not at yet another throwaway PPV like WWE TLC.

For some reason unbeknownst to me, the creative team has invested more time in a feud between a 42-year-old Triple H and a 52-year-old Kevin Nash (that has still yet to see those two wrestle) than stars the company should be building its future around.

It’s absolutely ridiculous, but it’s precisely why I say that Triple H must return at Survivor Series.

We’ve gotten far too much hype for this rivalry for nothing to happen at the pay-per-view. If Nash and Triple H aren’t involved in some sort of altercation at the show, then what the hell was the point of everything that has been done up to this moment?

Then why the hell did Nash even return in the first place?

Maybe I’m being a bit of a pessimist here, but having Triple H miss Survivor Series would render everything that’s happened so far pointless. Triple H’s feud/partnership with Punk, Nash’s attacks on Triple H, everything.

All the interaction between these two men and all the TV time they’ve taken up will go down the toilet in a flash.

I’m a reasonable guy, though, so I’m not even saying that Triple H has to wrestle Nash. He just has to make some sort of appearance, whether it’s during a backstage or in-ring segment.

It doesn’t really matter.

But leaving Triple H off of Survivor Series altogether would be like writing off a TV show’s main character before the series finale.

I don’t care if Triple H is selling a storyline injury. I don’t care if Nash can’t wrestle. I don’t care if neither of them actually gets in the ring.

I just want Triple H to be there so that we can at least get something out of a feud that’s largely been a waste of my time.

And guess what? I think Triple H will indeed come make his triumphant return at Madison Square Garden, even if he does it with a huge back brace on.
