Manny Pacquiao: He Wouldn't Stand a Chance Against Money Mayweather
Manny Pacquiao won by majority decision against Juan Manuel Marquez on Saturday night, sparking debate and controversy.
In fact, according to Yahoo! Sports, the decision made Marquez so angry that he’s now considering retirement:
“Juan Manuel Marquez furiously insisted his controversial defeat to Manny Pacquiao on Saturday night was a ‘robbery’ and accused two members of the judging panel of conspiring against him.
A dejected Marquez, 38, said it might have been his last fight.
‘Maybe I will retire,’ he said. “It is difficult after this. I also don’t want to throw away everything we have worked for but I just don’t know.’”
But, that’s all in the past now. For Pacquiao, it’s time to move on.
Boxing fans hope he’ll move on to a fight against Floyd “Money” Mayweather, Jr. That’s the fight everyone wants to see and there’s no reason it shouldn’t happen now.
It could happen on May 5, 2012, if everything works out.
But, if the highly-anticipated Pacquiao-Mayweather fight actually does end up happening, it won’t end well for Pac-Man.
Marquez showed us a blueprint of how to go about beating Pacquiao, and probably deserved to win Saturday’s fight.
Lately, Pacquiao has been beating up on bigger, slower guys. He’s being talked up for taking on people bigger than him, but it actually plays right into Pac-Man’s style to face bigger guys.
That way, he can use his speed to dart in and out and land punches and then duck out of harm’s way.
But Marquez showed that at this point in Pacquiao’s career, he has trouble with guys who are the same size as him and are also speedy.
Marquez is a great fighter, but he’s no Money Mayweather. Mayweather and Pacquiao are unquestionably the best welterweight fighters in the world right now.
Mayweather is also undefeated as a professional boxer, with a record of 42-0.
While Pacquiao hasn’t won a fight by knockout since 2009, Mayweather scored a knockout as recently as September.
He also defeated Marquez by unanimous decision back in 2009. Pacquiao never did that in three fights with Marquez.
So, while Pacquiao is struggling and not knocking people out, Mayweather has been improving.
And, based on Mayweather’s more impressive victory over Marquez, he would have to be favored in any potential Pacquiao-Mayweather fight.
Money is undefeated and until someone beats him, he has to be considered the best boxer in the world.
