Seven Reasons Why an Alabama vs LSU Rematch Is Not Popular with Some People
Larry Burton (Syndicated Writer) Most of the experts in the media agree that if Alabama and LSU both win out after Oklahoma State's loss, a BCS Championship rematch would be in the cards for Alabama.
So why is that not an idea that sits well with everyone?
This slide show will identify some of the reasons that some fans would not like to see Alabama get a second shot at the Tigers from LSU.
Comments are welcome at the end of the slide show and very much welcomed.
Let us know if there are other reasons you feel should have been included as well as your opinion of any reason listed that you feel is particularly foolish.
Saban Envy or Dislike
1 of 7Some people get tired of seeing the same people getting all the wins. I know I was beginning to feel that way about Jimmy Johnson of Nascar.
The same could apply to Saban and Alabama. He doesn't do a particularly good job of being warm and fuzzy with the media or the college football world, so that could be understood.
Living in Florida, I know hundreds of people who simply hate him for leaving the Miami Dolphins. There are others who still hate him for leaving LSU and some who just hate him for other reasons.
If you had a list of the most successful coaches and the most beloved outside their own fanbase, Saban may have the widest gap from the top of one to the other.
Bama Envy or Dislike
2 of 7Some think the Alabama fan base is already too hard to live with and that with13 national championships already, another one would make them even louder and more obnoxious.
Plus most teams that are perennial winners also have a huge number of fans who want to see them fall. It's just the way of college football.
Even other SEC fan bases may not be keen on the idea of an all SEC BCS Championship.
Such a thing would only help Alabama further in recruiting and does Nick Saban really need an advantage like that to continue to pull in top classes?
Alabama Had Their Shot and Blew It
3 of 7There is a large contingent that says Alabama had their chance and blew it. That's a hard argument to disagree with.
The best rebuttal is that the BCS is supposed to put the two best teams in the country together and play for a championship and when Oklahoma State lost a game, it's going to be hard to say that Alabama really isn't the number two team in the nation.
Other Teams Are More Deserving
4 of 7Of course prior to Friday night's loss, there was no debate that Oklahoma State was No. 2 and more deserving, but when they lost, some may wonder why Alabama would go before other one loss teams.
No other one loss team has played more teams ranked in the top 20 than Alabama.
Every other one loss team lost to a far more inferior opponent than Alabama did in losing to LSU.
No other one loss team had a strength of schedule tougher than Alabama.
No other one loss team team has held a rating as high as Alabama throughout the season.
SEC Envy or Dislike
5 of 7Fans outside the SEC are growing tired of constantly hearing about the superiority of the SEC in the BCS.
An all SEC title game would only make that talk worse.
People That Want to See If LSU Can Stop a Real Offensive Powerhouse
6 of 7Some people are never convinced that a defensive powerhouse is really all that tough. There are those who want LSU to face a team out of either the Pac-12 or Big 12 that throws up 50 or more points a game.
Arkansas and LSU both have team averages of over 38 points a game except for their meeting with Alabama.
LSU scored nine and Arkansas scored 14.
It is unlikely that any school could light the scoreboard up against LSU. Only Oregon scored more than 21 points on LSU. They scored 27. Their year to date average per game including that LSU loss is 48 points.
Therefore, based on this, LSU holds such teams to just over half their regular total.
And if you're wondering or have forgotten, LSU scored 40 on Oregon.
LSU Fans Know That Alabama Has the Capacity to Defeat Them
7 of 7Simply put, LSU fans would rather play another team for the most obvious of reasons, they simply aren't as good as Alabama and they would have an easier road to another national championship.
And who could blame them for that?
It's not that LSU fans are scared per se of Alabama, but just that another team may be easier to defeat.
