Manny Pacquiao: Floyd Mayweather Would Blow Up Lieutenant Colonel
Manny Pacquiao isn’t on the same planet as Floyd Mayweather right now.
Pacquiao lost to Juan Manuel Marquez in the ring, but on the judges’ scorecard, he somehow came away victorious. An enraged Marquez stomped away following the announcer calling Pacquiao victorious. After he cooled off, Marquez told reporters (via FOX News):
“This was the second robbery and this one was the worst. We won with clearer punches. It's hard when you're fighting your rival and the three judges, too.”
Marquez had every right to be furious. Everyone witnessed him outfight Pacquiao for 12 rounds. At the very worst, the bout should’ve been ruled a draw, but instead, two judges ruled 116-112 and 115-113 in favor of Pac-Man.
All three of Pacquiao and Marquez’s fights have been extremely tight. The first ended in a draw and the second finished with Pacquiao holding his hands in the air after a split decision. When Mayweather fought Marquez back in 2009, he had no such trouble.
Marquez managed to take Pretty Boy Floyd 12 rounds, but Mayweather won by unanimous decision. It could simply be the styles of the boxers; maybe Marquez’s counter-punch attack is more effective against a boxer like Pacquiao than Mayweather. Still, Mayweather looked far more dominant in his bout with the same opponent that Pacquiao continues to struggle against.
Money Mayweather is scheduled to fight next on May 5th, 2012. His opponent for the date is still unknown. It could very well be Pacquiao, and if the two were to compete, there’s no question who the favorite would be: Mayweather.
Pacquiao stepped into the ring on Saturday night looking to ease the minds of his doubters. He left the ring with far more critics than when he entered, though. After his fight with Marquez, it’s hard to imagine him being able to defeat the undefeated Mayweather.
