BCS Rankings: Predicting the Week 12 BCS Top 25 Based on Latest AP Poll

William PenfieldNov 13, 2011

The latest AP Poll was just released and there are some big shake ups due to six ranked teams losing yesterday, including No. 4 Stanford and No. 5 Boise State.

Although the BCS doesn't take the AP Poll into account, you can gauge what the BCS Top 25 will be like based off the AP Top 25.

This weeks BCS rankings will be shaken up with the only givens being the No. 1 and No. 2 spots.

Predicted BCS rankings:

No. 1 LSU (Last week: No. 1)

  • There is no doubt that LSU will be the No. 1 team in the country when the BCS rankings are released. They are one of three remaining unbeaten's with the best resume. LSU is the first unanimous No. 1 in the AP Poll since Texas in 2008.

No. 2 Oklahoma State (Last week: No. 2)

  • Perhaps the most impressive team on Saturday, the Oklahoma State Cowboys will have a stronghold on the No. 2 spot in the rankings as long as they keep winning.

No. 3 Alabama (Last week: No. 3)

  • With a bit of a struggle against Mississippi State on Saturday there was a chance that Alabama could have been jumped for the No. 3 spot, but their strength of schedule will help them keep it.

No. 4 Oregon (Last week: No. 7)

  • The Oregon Ducks added an impressive win to their resume last night blowing out No. 4 Stanford in Palo Alto. The win will allow them to jump Boise State and Stanford, who both lost, as well as Oklahoma in the newly released BCS rankings.

No. 5 Oklahoma (Last week: No. 6)

  • Despite having a week off the Oklahoma Sooners will benefit from Boise State and Stanford losing and move up a spot when the BCS rankings are released later tonight.

No. 6 Arkansas (Last week: 8)

  • With Alabama and LSU getting all the attention in the SEC, Arkansas is quietly putting together a solid season and with their latest blowout win over Tennessee they will move up two spots in the new BCS rankings. In the season finale the Razorbacks will have a chance to throw the BCS in a tizzy if they can knock off LSU on the road.

No. 7 Clemson Tigers (Last week: 9)

  • Despite narrowly escaping Wake Forest, 31-28, the Clemson Tigers will benefit from Boise State and Stanford losing and move up two spots in the rankings. Due to their head to head victory over Virginia Tech they narrowly edge them out for the No. 7 spot.

No. 8 Virginia Tech (Last Week: 10)

  • The Virginia Tech Hokies did what the Clemson Tigers could not do and knocked off the Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets on Thursday night. The fact that they lost to the Tigers in the head-to-head matchup keeps them from edging them for the No. 7 spot.

No. 9 Stanford (Last week: 4)

  • Stanford got embarrassed on their home field last night against Oregon and for that reason they will drop five spots when the BCS rankings are revealed tonight.

No. 10 Houston (Last week: 11)

  • Houston became the first team to reach 10 wins on Thursday night when they demolished Tulane. With Boise State losing, the Cougars could find themselves in a BCS bowl if they win out.

No. 11 Boise State (Last week: 5)

  • Once again the Boise State Broncos find themselves losing a game they should have one due to a kicker missing a field goal. They will have to wait another year to possibly get their shot at a BCS National Championship.

No. 12 Georgia (Last week: 15)

  • With a blowout victory over Auburn on Saturday, Georgia will jump its fellow SEC member South Carolina for the No. 12 spot in the rankings after another unimpressive effort out of the Gamecocks.

No. 13 Michigan State (Last week: 17)

  • The Spartans knocked out Iowa on Saturday 37-21, which will allow them to move up four spots in the new BCS rankings. Like Georgia, they will benefit from a subpar effort from the Gamecocks.

No. 14 South Carolina (Last week: 13)

  • Somehow South Carolina keeps winning games by playing some of the ugliest football in the nation. Due to the unimpressive nature of their win they will drop a spot in the new BCS rankings.

No. 15 Kansas State (Last week: 14)

  • Kansas State narrowly escaped Texas A&M on Saturday in four overtimes, 53-50. They will fall in the new BCS rankings due to the unimpressive nature of their win.

No. 16 Wisconsin (Last week: 18)

  • Russell Wilson and the Wisconsin Badgers won their second straight game on Saturday after dropping two in a row to knock them out of contention for the BCS National Championship game. With hopes of Big Ten Championship still alive, the Badgers will move up two spots in the new BCS rankings.

No. 17 Nebraska (Last week: 19)

  • Nebraska was able to go into an emotionally charged game against Penn State and knock off the Nittany Lions to improve to 8-2. After a disappointing loss to Northwestern last week, the Cornhuskers needed to win this game.

No. 18 Penn State (Last week: 12)

  • After everything that went on surrounding the Penn State football program it is amazing they could even bring themselves to compete in a football game on Saturday. They fell to Nebraska 17-14 and for that reason they will fall six spots when the BCS rankings are released.

No. 19 Southern Miss (Last week: 22)

  • Southern Miss narrowly escaped UCF on Saturday thanks to the Knights missing a two point conversion for the win with seconds left on the clock. The win will move the Golden Eagles up three spots in the new BCS rankings.

No. 20 TCU Horned Frogs (Last week: not ranked)

  • Other than Oregon, the Horned Frogs probably had the most impressive win on Saturday knocking off Boise State on the blue turf. The win will allow the Horned Frogs go from unranked to No. 20 in the new BCS rankings.

No. 21 Michigan (Last week: 24)

  • After a disappointing loss to Iowa last week, the Wolverines bounced back in impressive fashion to knock off Illinois, 31-14. The win keeps them alive in the Big Ten and will allow them to jump three spots in the new BCS rankings.

No. 22 Baylor (Last week: 25)

  • Behind the arm and legs of Robert Griffin III, the Baylor Bears were able to knock off Kansas, 31-30, in overtime for their sixth win of the season. In an up and down season for the Bears, the win makes them bowl eligible and will allow them to jump three spots in the new BCS rankings.

No. 23 Florida State (Last week: not ranked)

  • In what was supposed to be a national championship contending season for the Florida State Seminoles, they have stumbled quite a bit due to injuries. But, on Saturday they got their seventh win of the season to allow them to jump into the BCS rankings.

No. 24 Notre Dame (Last week: not ranked)

  • Notre Dame was able to stomp on the Maryland Terapins on Saturday night to improve their record to 7-3 on the season. The Irish seem to be clicking at the right time and will find themselves in the BCS rankings when they are released later tonight for the first time this season.

No. 25 West Virginia (Last week: not ranked)

  • West Virginia looked like an impressive team in the beginning of the season, but they stumbled a bit once they got to their Big East schedule. The 25th spot was up for grabs between them and Georgia Teach but the fact that the Mountaineers won this week and the Yellow Jackets lost gives it to West Virginia.
