Pacquiao vs. Marquez 3 Results: Was the Fight Fair or Fixed?
Manny Pacquiao, Juan Manuel Marquez and the judges didn't decide the fight last night—Floyd Mayweather did.
When the fight went to decision, many of those scoring the fight from arm chairs and sports bars around the world either had the fight as a draw or a victory for Marquez.
A victory for Marquez wouldn't be good for boxing, though. It would have people questioning how worthy of an opponent Pacquiao would be for Marquez and ultimately take away from what was from the buildup of the elusive but still highly anticipated Pacquiao vs. Mayweather.
If Pacquiao would have fought the fight Marquez put forth and vice versa, Pacquiao still would have won. The judges weren't scoring the fight from an objective view, as it's nearly impossible to do so.
This is the sort of irritating result that has casual onlookers frustrated with boxing. There is no scoreboard, and unless there is a knockout or a one-sided fight, there is not always a clear-cut favorite.
Millions of dollars and the result of the fight are placed in the hands of judges, who may have come into the fight already knowing who would win if the fight were close.
With Mayweather sucker-punching Victor Ortiz to attain a victory and Pacquiao taking down 38-year-old Marquez in controversial fashion, neither fighter did themselves a favor with their last fight.
The boxing world has a bitter taste in its mouth. Even in the event that a good fight like the one last night surfaces, those who saw it likely feel as though they witnessed an injustice.
