Pacquiao vs. Marquez 3 Results: Did the World Just Witness a Boxing Conspiracy?
With many of the boxing writers who were tweeting about the fight having Juan Manuel Marquez ahead after another 12 rounds against Manny Pacquiao, the official decision stunned them, those watching at the MGM Grand and at home the same.
One judge has it a tie at 114 apiece, then a second judge had it 115-113 for Pacquiao and then the most controversial number of them all was the third judge scoring the bout 116-112.
Sure, I could live with a close win for Pacquiao (54-3-2, 38 KOs), even though I personally felt Marquez (52-6-1, 39 KOs) did enough to win, but a four-point edge to Pacquiao by a judge is downright outrageous.
Everyone knew that if Pacquiao lost, the sport of boxing would basically lose all hope of the mega fight between Pacquiao and Floyd Mayweather—something many feel that the sport of boxing needs to help it stay afloat, popularity-wise—from ever happening.
There is no other way to put it; the fight seemed given to Pacquiao to keep the dream of himself and Mayweather fighting sometime in the near future alive and well.
Sure, the controversial ending will leave a small burden on boxing, but nothing that Pacquiao and Mayweather meeting in the ring couldn't fix and then some.
Whether or not a investigation will be launched to see if some sort of foul play was involved with the decision is besides the point.
In the end Marquez was screwed again, leaving those who were watching with the same bad taste in their mouths that was there in each of the previous two fights as well.
