Miami Marlins: Logo and Name Switch Is an Epic Fail for Franchise
The Marlins efforts to turn themselves into a legitimate money making franchise are off to a rough start. This is a big season for the Marlins. They will begin play in a new stadium, and they have switched their name from the Florida Marlins to the Miami Marlins to go with the move.
The name switch is an attempt to build some buzz, and increase revenue with their apparel sales.
While this has led to a boost in sales initially it is going to do nothing to help them in the long run.

The Look
Problems with New Look
Owner Jeffery Lauria, as quoted on the sun-sentinel.com:
""We are the red-orange of the breathtaking Miami sunsets and the citrus industry; the blue of the sky and the sea; and the yellow of the beautiful Miami sunshine."
"
While that means lots of bright and vivid colors it isn't exactly filling fans minds with the thought of baseball.
Not Buster Olney, who sums this up on Twitter:
What's next? Will the Marlins hire Crockett and Tubbs as their hitting and bullpen coaches?
The sun-sentinel.com also offers us a glimpse of what the fan base as a whole is feeling about the new look.
""Meanwhile, the Marlins' new fashion statement was getting ripped online. Of more than 5,000 votes cast in a poll on SunSentinel.com, 59 percent rated the uniforms "awful." Only 14 percent gave them high marks."
"
Conclusion
The Marlins should have done more market testing with their new look. There is zero reason for a team to unveil a new look that is widely panned by the general public.
Now, instead of helping increase the buzz surrounding their team as they head into a new stadium, they are turning themselves into a joke.
Ultimately, their success will come down to wins and losses on the field, but they could have helped solidify their standing in the community with a look that people loved. Instead they have done just the opposite.
