UFC on Fox: UFC Will Regret Not Showing Clay Guida vs. Ben Henderson
The UFC’s decision to only show the heavyweight title fight on the network premiere is a decision the company will regret.
In a fight that can only be seen on Facebook, Clay Guida vs. Ben Henderson has not only a No. 1 contendership on the line, but it has the potential of taking home Fight of the Night honors.
There’s no doubt in my mind that this fight featuring these two lightweights will fight standing up, in the clinch and on the ground.
They’re both well-rounded mixed martial artists who are both crowd favorites. The reason fans cater to both of these fighters is their ability to put on a show time and time again.
Plain and simple, both of these fighters always put on great fights, so who’s to say they won’t have a great fight with one another?
The fact that these two are destined to have a great fight with one another, and the fact that these two could educate a new audience as to what MMA is all about really makes me question what the UFC was thinking here.
It might have came down to Fox’s call to only show the heavyweight championship, but this fight deserves a bigger platform than Facebook.
There are rumors circulating that the winner of this fight will fight Frankie Edgar in Japan. So not only is the UFC missing a great introductory fight to new fight fans to showcase, but they’re also missing an opportunity to build a new fan base for the potential No. 1 contender at lightweight.
What if Henderson wins this fight and fights Edgar in Japan for the title? Henderson has had limited exposure because he’s fought most of his professional career in World Extreme Cagefighting, and now, the UFC is in a bit of a pickle.
With all of that in mind, the main reason the UFC is missing the bus by not showing this fight on Fox is because these two are going to put on a show—a show that could persuade more fans to make the switch to MMA.
