UFC on FOX Results: Junior dos Santos and the 5 Best Fights of the Night
For the first time in the history of mixed martial arts, the UFC made their broadcasting television debut on the FOX Network.
And for the fans and viewers who tuned in, they had the privilege of being part of one of the biggest nights in UFC history.
The entire fight card was built up of spectacular fights, knockouts and even submissions that provided fans with the entertainment and excitement they were searching for.
While the entire evening was just as good as anticipated, there were a few fights that stood out amongst the rest.
So, the following slides display the five best fights from UFC on FOX 1.
Let's take a look.
5. Alex Caceres vs. Cole Escovedo
1 of 5Alex Caceres and Cole Escovedo entered UFC on FOX 1 in Anaheim, California, on the worst stretches of their mixed martial arts career.
When action began, it was Caceres who seemed more determine to avenge his recent defeats as he attacked Escovedo early and often.
Escovedo couldn't seem to defend against Caceres' stand up as he endured body shots, kicks and strikes until the final bell rang.
Caceres was declared victorious via unanimous decision (30-27, 30-27, 30-27).
4. Darren Uyenoyama vs. Kid Yamamoto
2 of 5Darren Uyenoyama took his first step inside the Octagon on Saturday, November 12th, to take on highly-dangerous Kid Yamamoto.
Yamamoto slammed Uyenoyama to the ground early and looked to be in control.
But, it didn't take long for Uyenoyama to settle down and eventually dominate the bout through his spectacular grappling skills.
Despite capturing Yamamoto's back, the bout was heading to the judge's scorecards, ruling Uyenoyama the winner via unanimous decision (30-27, 30-26 and 30-27)
3. Dustin Poirier vs. Pablo Garza
3 of 5Dustin Poirier entered the Octagon on November 12th, at just 22 years old to take on well-rounded featherweight Pablo Garza.
But, it was Poirier who appeared to be the better well-rounded fighter as he frequently pinned Garza in the clinch and began unloading strikes and knees.
When action began in the second frame, Poirier continued to dominate.
Then, at 1:32 in Round 2, Poirier caught Garza in a D'arce Choke that led him to victory.
2. Cain Velasquez vs. Junior dos Santos
4 of 5Cain Velasquez entered UFC on FOX having never lost a fight in his mixed martial arts career.
But, that all changed just 64 seconds into Round 1 when his opponent Junior dos Santos connected on a huge strike that sent Velasquez to the floor.
Dos Santos jumped on the champion and began pounding his way to victory.
It was one of the greatest first-round knockouts in UFC history as the Anaheim, California, crowd couldn't believe what they had just witnessed.
1. Clay Guida vs. Ben Henderson
5 of 5As excepted, lightweight fighters Clay Guida and Ben Henderson put on a show for the Anaheim, California, crowd to remember.
It's fair to say that both Guida and Henderson could have gone another few rounds as the tempo of this bout was hard to keep up with.
Henderson showed his strength as he continued to stuff Guida's takedowns. And, eventually, Henderson would be the one to take Guida down.
While there were times that the two swung for the fences, most of the control was in the hands of Henderson as he was declared victorious by unanimous decision (30-27, 29-28, 30-27)
