Urban Meyer Penn State: Why Former Coach Should Stay Far Away from Program
No offense to Penn State, but why would Urban Meyer want to make his college football coaching return in State College, Pa., after one of the worst scandals in sports history? He wouldn’t and shouldn’t even consider it.
Health concerns are a major issue for Meyer, and any added stress to the man’s body could be very hurtful to his future. Not only would he be replacing a figure who was the definition of the area, a man who’s been the face of the program for decades, but he would be asked to restore the complete image of the university.
That’s too much to handle.
In no way, shape or form should Meyer be placed in a situation as horrible as Penn State’s at the current moment. It wouldn’t be in his best interest.
While Meyer may be an option down the line, say two or three years, he isn’t the best option as of now. Penn State needs somebody they can trust. They need one of their own. Meyer seems like a guy who can be trusted, but he isn’t an alumnus, and I think that should be a major factor towards the right hire.
Penn State-University Park is different than any other school in the country. It is such a large campus that is in the middle of nowhere in central Pennsylvania. It is such a tight-knit community. Only people who have went to the school 100 percent understand it.
I honestly believe that Penn State needs to hire somebody who is one of their own. The university owes it to the community to rebuild and restore the image that is Penn State.
To get the program running again, it must first land on its feet. While Meyer is a wonderful coach, it wouldn’t be in his best interest or the university’s to bring him into this circus.
