Oregon vs. Stanford Football: BCS Must Put Cardinal at No. 2 After Huge Win
As the 2011 college football season comes to a close, heads are starting to spin with all the different possible outcomes that we could see in the national championship game.
This weekend there is a huge matchup among Top 10 teams that will have an enormous impact on who one of those team's in the national championship could be.
At 8 p.m. ET tomorrow night, the No. 4 Stanford Cardinal will match up against the No. 7 Oregon Ducks at Stanford.
Stanford currently boasts the longest winning streak in college football; they have put up 17 consecutive wins dating back to early last season. The most recent loss came in Eugene with a final score of 52-31 against the Ducks.
The Ducks have recently been the team to give Stanford struggles in recent years. Oregon has won eight of the last nine meetings between the two teams.
This year, Stanford plays with a national championship berth on the line.
If the Cardinal can walk away victorious, there is no reason why they shouldn't jump to the No. 2 ranking in the BCS rankings.
Alabama is sitting ahead of them with an 8-1 record and a loss against the No. 1 LSU Tigers.
Oklahoma State is currently ranked No. 2 but the team hasn't played any teams in the same ballpark as Oregon. The Cowboys have faced Texas A&M, Kansas State and Texas. All of these teams are a notch below the Ducks.
Oklahoma State may put up 50.1 points per game, but they also allow 28.6 points. Stanford manages 48.2 points per game and holds opponents to 16.6 points.
They are clearly the more complete football team.
Andrew Luck and the Cardinal have been underrated all season. After taking out the Oregon Ducks this weekend, it will be time to give them the respect they deserve.
