Oklahoma Football Recruiting 2012: 5 Prime Time Targets for the Sooners
Oklahoma has had a solid output on the recruiting trail thus far. They could be right on pace for top 10 recruiting class, as Bob Stoops and Co. are in the running for some of the nation's best prep prospects.
For this read, I'm going to give you who I feel are the top five remaining players to get for the Sooners. Get ready OU fans, because once you see this list, you will see that the Sooners are big game hunting.
Here we go.
5. Zach Banner, OL
1 of 5Banner is perhaps the largest OL in the country. He's a 6'9", 305-pound oak tree of an OL and has amazing size and length. He's a solid athlete, and I like him best as a RT.
Banner likes the Sooners enough to have paid them a visit in September. He enjoyed his time in Norman, and OU will stay on him.
Getting a big OL out of the Pacific Northwest like Banner could open up a whole new reach for Sooners recruiting.
4. Josh Garnett, OL
2 of 5Garnett and Banner may not be a package deal, but they are the top two players in Washington, and are good friends. Seeing them end up at the same school wouldn't be overly shocking.
At 6'5", 275 pounds, Garnett can play OG, OT or even DT. He's scheduled to be in Norman November 25th to see the Sooners up close and personal.
He's a huge target for OU recruiting right now.
3. Mario Edwards, DE
3 of 5I have Edwards checking in at No. 3 on this list, not because he's the third best player, just because of certain circumstances. He's the top-ranked player by ESPNU and is committed to Florida State.
However, Edwards says he is looking around a bit, and LSU and of course Oklahoma are standing out. I also say watch out for Texas. Edwards was seen at the Texas-OU game a few weeks ago in Dallas, and says he'll probably visit OU in the coming time.
This could be a huge get for the Sooners.
2. Gunner Kiel, QB
4 of 5Kiel's switch to re-open his recruitment from Indiana was a shocker, and I'm sure it caught OU's attention. The Sooners were a school Kiel visited in the spring/summer and were thought to be a finalist.
Now that he's back on the market, look for Oklahoma to rev up their efforts on the elite QB prospect from Indiana. At 6'4", 200 pounds, Kiel would be a perfect fit for the Sooners offense, since he runs a spread scheme now in high school.
Signing another QB could really give the Sooners a wealth of insurance and depth at the position for when Landry Jones leaves.
1. Dorial Green-Beckham, WR
5 of 5The nation's top recruit has had his eye on Oklahoma for quite some time. He's visited Norman and likes the ideal fit in the program and in the Sooners offense.
At 6'6", 220 pounds, DGB is maybe the best WR prospect to come out in years. The Sooners are on him extremely hard, and will likely be in the race until the end.
The main schools they will have to contend with are Missouri, Texas and Arkansas.
