Jerry Sandusky Scandal: Nittany Lions Players Shouldn't Receive Public Backlash

Eric BowmanNov 11, 2011

With all the emotions swirling out of control thanks to the Penn State scandal, the public needs to be careful on how it treats the current players on the Nittany Lions roster.

The Penn State scandal has turned into the biggest one in sports history, but lost in it all is how the current players must adapt and prepare for what they do best—playing football on Saturday.

These are difficult times for everyone involved, and the players are hurting too.

Of course, the real story is about the alleged victims of Jerry Sandusky, a former Penn State defensive coordinator.

Once that happened and more news broke, everything went kind of crazy in State College, PA.

The nation is outraged over what events took place, but there is no need for the players to take any heat from this scandal.

Yes, Penn State's image is forever tainted, and no one should ever forget what Sandusky has been accused of.

However, the players need the support of their fans, and not for everyone to react like children. The crazier this scandal gets, the more people will get upset, which puts more pressure on the players.

This scandal goes beyond football, but at the same time, Penn State needs to rally around its current players and cheer them on for the rest of the season.

It will be a long time before Penn State is able to restore its image, but for the time being, the Nittany Lions must show their love and care towards their players.

The scandal isn't going to go away, and there is nothing Penn State can do about that.

We've seen how worked up fans and students have gotten over this ordeal, but that cannot happen anymore.

It sheds a negative light on the university, which reflects poorly on the players. These guys are out there representing Penn State every Saturday, and they don't need scrutiny from anyone over this scandal.

Nittany Lions running back, Silas Redd, tweeted his thoughts on everything.

He is right, the Nittany Lions are a family, and they need to stay that way. There are a lot of split opinions on how Penn State is handling everything, but that doesn't mean the players should also suffer.

Win or lose on Saturday, the Penn State players should hear nothing but love and support from their fanbase.

Asking the players to perform under these conditions is no easy task, but they know that winning will help heal the hearts of some of their fans.

Again, never forget what the scandal is truly about, and don't hate on the players for something they're not at fault for.
