Dorial Green-Beckham: 5 Reasons Arkansas Could Be a Better Fit Than Texas
The nation's No.1 recruit has had a bit of mystery to his recruitment. Rumors are swirling about who he really likes, silent commitments and more.
DGB rarely talks to the media and his father mostly does the talking whenever a bit of information is decided to be given out. However, it seems like a group of schools has appeared to stand out, and among that group is Arkansas.
Texas is also in the alleged top group of schools, and for this read, I'm just going to list five reasons why the Razorbacks' program may be a better fit for Green-Beckham than the Longhorns' program.
5. Smaller Fish Bowl in Fayetteville Than Austin
1 of 5Arkansas fans, you have a great program, yes. It's not small-time by any means. But, I think I'm not being mean by saying Texas' program is just "bigger".
The fan base, the pressure, the following; the Longhorns have a larger program.
With that comes a larger fish bowl. More scrutiny. With Green-Beckham seemingly not being too keen on the recruiting spotlight and the attention, the smaller fish bowl in Fayetteville could be a better fit than the mega-attention he'll get in Austin.
4. Recent WR History
2 of 5Since Bobby Petrino has been head coach at Arkansas, the WR play has been very solid. Name off players like Greg Childs, Joe Adams and Jarius Wright, and you see why.
Green-Beckham even told Scout.com in the summer that he sees a lot of NFL preparation in the Razrback receivers' games and routes, and he likes that.
Could Dorial Green-Beckham view the Arkansas WR room as the gateway to the NFL?
3. Closer to Home Than to Austin, TX
3 of 5A commonly known theme to Green-Beckham's recruitment has been that he wants to stay close to home. Well, following that trend, it looks like Arkansas could be a better fit than Texas.
From DGB's Springfield, MO home to Austin, TX is a 10-hour drive. From Springfield, MO to Fayetteville, AR is only a 2-hour drive and change.
That's a pretty significant distance difference.
2. Bobby Petrino
4 of 5Now, we all know the story of Petrino's tenure with the Falcons. Ouch. Yes, the NFL was not kind to Petrino, nor was he kind to the Falcons for that one horrific season.
Yet, Petrino is regarded as one of the best offensive play-callers in the game of football. He's also said to be great with QBs and WRs, and this could be a great avenue for Green-Beckham.
I'm not saying he won't get good coaching should he sign with Texas, Oklahoma or Missouri, but playing in a Bobby Petrino offense really does grow your mind and skill set as a player.
1. Chance to Play Against SEC Defensive Backs
5 of 5Listen, when you're as talented as Dorial Green-Beckham, even at this age you began to think about really playing in the NFL. So yes, your recruitment will have the backdrop of "which program will prepare me best for the NFL?."
The chance to play in the SEC, against SEC-caliber DBs and really get battle tested is an awesome opportunity to fine-tune your game.
I mean, week in and week out you can face Dre Kirkpatrick, Morris Claiborne, Stephon Gilmore, Casey Hayward or Brandon Boykin in the SEC. If DGB wants to be challenged and face constant elite competition, the SEC and Arkansas are prime fittings.
