UFC on Fox 1: Velasquez vs. Dos Santos and the 5 Best Fights on the Card

First LastNov 10, 2011

With the UFC's debut on Fox only days away, heavyweights Cain Velasquez and Junior dos Santos prepare to put on one of the most anticipated and significant fights of the year.

The heavyweight title fight will be broadcast as the lone bout on the Fox card, but there is an undercard that is set to feature another anticipated fight between lightweight contenders Ben Henderson and Clay Guida. The winner will emerge as the No. 1 contender for Frankie Edgar's title.

All undercard fights will be shown on Facebook, and although only one fight will be shown on Fox, there are still many reasons to watch the undercard.

These are the five best fights to look forward to.

No. 5: Norifumi Yamamoto vs. Darren Uyenoyama

1 of 5

Norifumi "Kid" Yamamoto (18-4) couldn't make a splash in his UFC debut versus Demetrious Johnson, but he will get a second chance when he takes on Darren Uyenoyama (6-3) in a bantamweight bout.

Yamamoto comes in 1-3 in his last four, so he will need to create momentum against Uyenoyama, who is making his UFC debut.

Even if this bout ends quick or goes all three, it should produce fireworks in the 135 pound division.

No. 4: Mike Pierce vs. Paul Bradley

2 of 5

Paul Bradley (18-3) will look to become the first man to finish Mike Pierce (12-4) when he battles the standout wrestler in a rematch of a fight he lost two years ago.

Pierce holds a 4-2 record inside the UFC, but his only losses have come against Jon Fitch and Johny Hendricks. He didn't lose to either without winning at least a round, and his loss to Hendricks was one some had thought he had won.

Bradley brings quality wrestling skills into the fight to match Pierce, but it's in his standup that Pierce will hold the advantage, especially when it comes to power.

Even if Pierce can't score the knockout, he should be able to make this an entertaining scrap, and it should determine the next best up-and-comer in the division.

No. 3: Dustin Poirier vs. Pablo Garza

3 of 5

Featherweight prospects Dustin Poirier (10-1) and Pablo Garza (11-1) will look to solidify their spot as Top 10 fighters in the division when they meet with undefeated UFC records.

Both have two wins inside the Octagon, and both have looked impressive so far. Poirier upset Josh Grispi when Grispi was supposed to be next in line for Jose Aldo, while Garza won submission of the night and knockout of the night bonuses for each of his fights.

Given their abilities to put on entertaining fights with spectacular finishes, this has the makings of picking up at least one of the three post-fight bonuses.

No. 2: Clay Guida vs. Ben Henderson

4 of 5

Former WEC lightweight champion Ben Henderson (14-2) will make his third appearance inside the UFC to take on Clay Guida (29-11), who is arguably his toughest test to date.

A lot has been made about this fight being placed on the untelevised portion of the card, but that won't stop either of these two fighting for what should be a shot at UFC lightweight champion Frankie Edgar.

Both have been involved in Fight of the Year fights, and this should be a candidate for 2011's Fight of the Year if it unfolds the way everyone is anticipating.

No. 1: Cain Velasquez vs. Junior Dos Santos

5 of 5

UFC heavyweight champion Cain Velasquez (9-0) will put his title on the line against his most dangerous opponent yet in Junior dos Santos (13-1), who brings a 7-0 UFC record into the fight.

After disposing of powerhouse Brock Lesnar in his last fight in just one round, Velasquez put all rumors to rest about the bigger man always being the better man in the heavyweight division.

Dos Santos has been walking through all of his opponents, and they include Shane Carwin, Roy Nelson, Mirko Cro Cop and Fabricio Werdum.

Given the type of stylistic matchup that is presented in this fight, it's almost impossible to predict. Nobody knows how either guy will win, and nobody knows who will win.

Be prepared for one of the best heavyweight fights in a long, long time.
