Manny Pacquiao: Why Mayweather Is Better for Boxing Than Pacquiao
"Boring" should not be an adjective to describe a boxer.
Manny Pacquiao is boring.
The 32-year-old has never done anything to make you question his behavior. He’s the anti-bad boy. Being apart of Congress in the Philippines is an incredible testament to the kind of person Pac-Man is. He is generous, always cracking a smile, and he can sing too.
Does that sound like a boxer that may or may not be the best fighter in the past decade?
Pacquiao is much better suited for his job in government. He is too dull for boxing.
This sport is about promotion. Muhammad Ali paved the way for guys like George Foreman and Mike Tyson. Trash talking is thoroughly ingrained in the boxing world. That’s how you build up drama and anticipation—two things that are always a boxer's friend.
That’s why Floyd Mayweather is brilliant. He is incredibly outspoken, stirs up controversy and laughs to the bank.
He makes money off people hating him. Mayweather thrives off all the hatred he is receiving for being the main reason fans can’t watch a Pacquiao-Mayweather bout. He is the one that leaked half-baked reports to the media at the same time Pac-Man had a major fight. He’s an attention hog and will go to questionable measures for the spotlight.
Mayweather is terrific at controlling the message he sends. He knows how much is at stake. Sure, it’s calculated, but that’s boxing.
Pacquiao doesn’t care, and that makes us care a little bit less.
