The Cleveland Cavaliers Will Win the NBA Championship This Season
The Cavaliers have made a statement already this season. Their 20-4 record places them third best in the league and first in their division.
The Cavs also rank No. 1 in the league in offense efficiency (the number of points a team scores per 100 possessions), and second in the league in defense efficiency (the number of points a team allows per 100 possessions).
If they can surpass the Celtics and rank No. 1 in defense efficiency, they will be the only team to have ever achieved this since the 1995-96 Chicago Bulls.
So why exactly will the Cavaliers win the Championship this season?
In order to win championships, a team needs a well-balanced offense AND defense.
The Cavaliers have the roster to produce just that.
The Defense
PF/C Ben Wallace
Ben Wallace is a well-established defender who can give you consistent minutes night in and night out. Wallace can guard just about any big man in the league, and has lots of experience in the playoffs. Ben is a huge part of the Cavaliers defense, (averaging 7.00 RPG, and 1.88 BPG on the season) and is a great mentor for the team as well. Trading for Wallace last season adds much needed defensive depth for the Cavs.
PF/C Anderson Varejao
Anderson Varejao is in his fifth season and has shown major signs of improvement since first stepping foot into the league. Averaging nearly 26 minutes per game, Varejao provides a consistent source of rebounds (6.60), and shooting (58.2 percent from the field).
With Big Z out for at least a week, Varejao will get the chance to show how much better he can play in the starting lineup.
C Zydrunas Ilgauskas
Zydrunas Ilgauskas is now the Cavaliers' top rebounder in history. Although not much is heard about the big fella, Big Z has been around for 11 seasons. Standing 7’3”, Zydrunas can defend (1.2 BPG), box out the offense (7.6 RPG), and shoot over anyone (14.8 PPG).
Big Z can defend the most elite big men in the league and isn’t afraid to shoot the ball as well. At age 33, Zydrunas has the wisdom, heart, and desire to win the Finals more than ever.
The Offense
SF LeBron James
LeBron James is the best all-around player in the NBA today. He currently averages 27.12 points per game, second best in the league. He also averages 6.42 APG, 6.75 RPG, 2.04 SPG, and 1.17 BPG. LeBron finally has the teammates he needs to win a Championship.
PG Mo Williams
Mo Williams was signed by the Cavaliers this offseason and has shined thus far. Averaging 16.0 points and 4.3 assists per game in 32.5 minutes, Mo has learned the Cavs system of play rather quickly. He ranks amongst the best scoring point guards in the league, and has five years of experience in the NBA.
SG Delonte West
Delonte West was traded last season in the three-team deal that sent Wally Szczerbiak, Ben Wallace, and of course himself to the Cavs. Delonte is averaging 33.3 minutes per game, (second best on the Cavaliers) and leads the team in three-pointers made with 41 so far this season. West has made a name for himself this year, and is a big part of the Cavaliers offense.
The Bench Players
PG Daniel Gibson is currently out for two weeks with an injured toe. Last season he ranked fifth best in the NBA in three-point shooting percentage with 44.0 percent. He also averaged 10.4 points per game in 30.4 minutes. Gibson is a great shooter and will help the team in the scoring category immensely once he returns back to action.
SF Wally Szczerbiak is a nine-year veteran with a sweet stroke. He played a big role during the playoffs last season for the Cavs averaging nearly 29 minutes per game, scoring 10.8 points per game (He also made 20 three-pointers). He is an outstanding free throw shooter, shooting a career 86 percent from the line and has a lot of experience in the league.
The Cavaliers have the experience, knowledge, and talent both offensively and defensively to make it all the way to the Finals this season. LeBron James is destined to win a Championship this season and will NOT let anything stop him from making it to the Finals and winning it all.
Predictions:
Cavaliers Season Record: 65-17
MVP of the NBA: LeBron James
MVP of the Playoffs: LeBron James
The time is now, the King will finally be crowned MVP, with a Finals trophy to go with it.
