Georges St-Pierre Says He Makes Around $4 Million a PPV Fight
There certainly isn't any shortage on paydays in the world of MMA.
In an interview with the Agence France-Presse recently, UFC welterweight champion Georges St-Pierre revealed that he makes between $4 and $5 million per fight.
Those figures run hand and hand with UFC President Dana White's statements a couple of months ago declaring St-Pierre as the UFC's biggest draw in pay-per-view numbers.
"Georges St-Pierre is by far the biggest pay-per-view star in Mixed Martial Arts," White said after the pre-fight press conference for UFC 135.
Before White's statements, it was assumed by most that former UFC heavyweight champion Brock Lesnar was the biggest draw in the sport.
When asked if he was the highest paid fighter in MMA, St-Pierre merely smiled and seemed grateful for what years of hard work has earned him.
"I do not know, but I learned that the UFC makes the most money on pay-per-view when I am fighting. That made me smile," said St-Pierre. "For me, a fight is [worth] $4 to $5 million, and in the city where the UFC holds its events, there are economic benefits [to the city] of between $15 to $20 million. It's huge!"
Speaking of huge, St-Pierre is gearing up for a showdown with former Strikeforce champion Nick Diaz on the UFC's Super Bowl card on Feb. 4.
Diaz has been calling St-Pierre out for months, and he'll finally get his opportunity to overtake the French Canadian as the top 170-pounder and one of the best pound-for-pound fighters in the world.
Diaz shouldn't need any added motivation after hearing those figures.
Who wouldn't want to be sitting in St-Pierre's seat right about now?
