BCS Rankings Week 11: Georgia and More Two-Loss Teams with Chance to Crash BCS
The 2011 college football season is winding down, but there is still time for utter chaos to ensue, which would allow some unexpected teams to crash the BCS.
Despite what some might say, everyone loves a little madness, especially if it were to help end the BCS.
It's clear the No. 1 LSU Tigers are the favorites to play for the title, but should they lose or several other teams fall, some other two-loss teams will rise up.
Here are a few teams with two losses entering Week 11 that have a solid shot at playing in a BCS bowl game.
No. 15 Georgia
The Bulldogs have put together a very nice seven-game win streak, and even though they haven't had to play the top SEC West teams, winning seven straight after starting 0-2 is no easy task.
Georgia hosts Auburn this Saturday, and with a win the Bulldogs are locks to win the SEC East.
They would then likely face LSU in the SEC Championship Game, and if the Bulldogs somehow pulled off a huge upset they would be headed to a BCS bowl game.
Georgia may have two losses, but the BCS is not out of reach. The question is, will the Bulldogs seize their opportunity?
No. 17 Michigan State
With only one conference loss, the Spartans sit atop the Legends Division of the Big Ten. Michigan State has by far the easiest final few games of the Big Ten contenders, which means winning the division should be a cinch.
Facing Iowa, Indiana and Northwestern in the next three weeks shouldn't be too much of a challenge for the No. 2 overall defense in the country.
It's unclear who the Spartans would likely face in the first-ever Big Ten Championship Game, but first they must avoid choking in this final month.
Wisconsin is the best bet to win the Leaders Division, as Penn State will crumble with a difficult schedule. The Spartans have beaten Wisconsin before, and they know they can do it again, which would put them in the Rose Bowl.
No. 21 Georgia Tech
The Yellow Jackets should be undefeated right now, but they got too cocky earlier in the year and lost back-to-back games to weaker opponents.
It proved they were just a good team and not an elite one, but the chance of playing in a BCS bowl is not lost.
Georgia Tech must beat division rival No. 10 Virginia Tech on Thursday night in order to win the ACC Coastal Division, which would put the Yellow Jackets in the ACC Championship Game.
They would then play a rematch against Clemson, which they destroyed earlier in the year. The Yellow Jackets were discouraged after dropping two games in a row, but they still have a shot at crashing the BCS.
