Manny Pacquiao: Why Pacquaio Will Never Lose Again
It’s been a long time since Manny Pacquiao tasted defeat, and it’s a feeling he’ll never become familiar with again.
What awaits Juan Manuel Marquez this Saturday is a fighter at the peak of his powers and one that has far more on the line than just a rubber match.
Beyond Saturday
It’s a shame if Marquez believes Saturday is Pacquiao’s be-all and end-all, but he should know better.
With Floyd Mayweather waiting in the wings, Pacquiao knows moving past Marquez isn’t just an ideal but a must if he wants to make the kind of money against Mayweather that some have hinted at—$50 million, win or lose. That doesn’t come around everyday, and with the hungry mouths of his native Filipino people to feed you can believe he’s going to take this match come hell or high water.
What about Floyd?
It’s true Mayweather would remain Pacquiao’s biggest opponent, but it’s not his toughest task. There is no better match for Pacquiao than the man he’ll be facing in Marquez.
If he can slide past him, and for reasons of national pride, youth and lightning fast speed he will, there is no question PacMan will handle Mayweather. Mayweather plays mind games, and he’s a brilliantly talented fighter in his own right, but Pacquiao has been on an incredible roll since his last defeat so long ago, and while Mayweather has never improved much, PacMan has only improved.
Retirement?
Let us not rule out the overwhelming possibility that Pacquiao hangs it up after this fight. His fight with Mayweather is no done deal, and with age coming into play and steroid accusations that keep getting hurled at him, he might be more inclined to focus on his political career.
His options are endless, but defeat is not one of them.
