Texas Football Recruiting 2012: The Top Remaining Targets for the Longhorns
As it sits right now, Texas has the top recruiting class for the 2012 cycle. Now, signing day still isn't until February and a lot can happen between now and then, but there's no denying the class Mack Brown has assembled thus far.
Now the question comes: Are the Longhorns done? Or will they try to keep pushing and land a couple more star recruits?
I think for this year, as it looks right now, Texas is going to keep hunting. Who are their top remaining targets? Let's see.
5. Javonte Magee, DE
1 of 5Magee's recruitment is as open as anyone's in the country. He shows no interest in really narrowing things down and has a ton of offers.
At 6'6", 275 pounds, Alabama, Florida State, Michigan, LSU, Auburn, Notre Dame, Tennessee and Stanford along with Texas are just the tip of the iceberg of schools after Magee.
He says he wants to play DE in college, so if Texas wants him to kick inside to DT, then their chances will decrease significantly.
Stay tuned.
4. Andrus Peat, OT
2 of 5Peat is the top uncommitted OT prospect in the country, and the 6'7", 300-pounder looks like a top-notch future LT. He has upwards of 40 offers, but has narrowed it down.
Nebraska will host him for an unofficial visit during this season, while Stanford, Florida State and Texas also will get a chance to host him.
Texas being in Peat's top four bodes well for the Longhorns.
3. Landon Collins, DB/OLB
3 of 5Just being in this race shows the prowess of the Longhorns staff, as Collins was believed to be down to Alabama vs. LSU. However, he says Texas will get to host him for a visit in the coming weeks and months.
Education and ability to get defensive backs to the NFL are two reasons Collins cited as to why he now is looking at playing in Austin.
It may be tough to pry him away from LSU or 'Bama, but Collins coming to Austin is going to be a huge trip. It's not out of the question to see him sign with Texas.
2. Mario Edwards, DE
4 of 5Yes, I know this is a stretch, but hear me out. Edwards is committed to Florida State, sure. But he says LSU and Oklahoma are standing out right now.
So if Texas sees that there are chinks in his FSU commitment armor, don't you think they wold be all over him? Something just tells me that the Denton, TX native is not done with Texas.
When Edwards committed to Florida State in the spring, guess who the No. 2 school was?
Yep, Texas.
1. Dorial Green-Beckham, WR
5 of 5Texas has made up some serious ground according to Greg Powers of Scout.com. In fact, DGB will be visiting Austin on Nov. 19 for the Kansas State game.
This is a huge development for the Longhorns, as Green-Beckham is the top overall recruit in the country. The 6-foot-6, 220-pound WR has a great skill set and a plethora of offers.
Oklahoma, Missouri and Arkansas are other schools that are seriously thick and deep in the race. Circle Nov. 19, 2011 on your calendars, Longhorns fans, as that may be the biggest date in this recruiting cycle for you guys sans NSD.
