Week 10 Waiver Wire: Felix Jones and Fool's Gold to Avoid

John RozumNov 8, 2011

Although it's important to continue making moves for a shot at the playoffs, there are also players you must avoid, as they will cost you dearly.

That said, here are four players to defer from adding when trying to improve your fantasy football team.

Felix Jones: RB, Cowboys

Regardless of whether Felix Jones returns this week or any other week, adding him is a big mistake. Since his injury back in mid-October, rookie RB DeMarco Murray has flourished in taking over the first-string duties.

And, because of that solid productivity, don't expect anything to come from Jones whenever he returns. Murray is clearly the better back, was more productive in two games than Jones was all season and is a more dynamic threat.

Adding Jones will only take up space, so if you need a running back, you best try for a trade or look elsewhere, because Felix is on the back-burner for the remainder of 2011.

Eddie Royal: WR, Broncos

Based on his recent numbers, it appears that Broncos WR Eddie Royal is back on the rise.

Even though he does have better production with Tim Tebow under center as opposed to Kyle Orton, don't let that fool you.

Royal is Denver's third-best receiving target and fifth-best offensive weapon (behind Decker, Fells, McGahee and Tebow).

He may be an explosive slot WR, but since the Broncos traded Jay Cutler to Chicago, Royal hasn't been nearly the same type of threat across the middle.

Roy Helu: RB, Redskins

Last week against San Fran, Redskins RB Roy Helu compiled 146 total yards. However, 105 of them were on 14 receptions.

Yeah, when was the last time a running back caught 14 passes in one game?

That for sure won't happen again, and although that displays Helu's versatility, it's not like Washington has any WRs worth throwing to anyway (sorry, but Santana Moss is old and average at best).

Helu is emerging as a solid NFL RB, but with no one else around to help him out, defenses are going to zero in on him like no other.

He is the key to stopping the Redskins offense, and as bad as it already is, Helu's production will unfortunately decrease as the season progresses.

Atlanta Falcons Defense

The Atlanta Falcons have a tricky defense in terms of fantasy football. It doesn't allow a lot of points (only 19 per game), but it doesn't get too many sacks or turnovers either.

The Falcons defense forces a lot of punts, doesn't block kicks and has very good tacklers. That said, Atlanta has a very sound defense when it comes to the fundamentals of real football, and that will definitely prove beneficial as the season goes on.

But, in terms of fantasy, you want a defense that's going to force turnovers, get sacks and not allow too many points. The Falcons only fit one of those three criteria, so try for a defense that at least forces a decent number of turnovers.

However, if you're a Falcons fan, feel vindicated because you guys do have a solid defense nonetheless.
