7 Signs Your Buddy Is Running a Losing Fantasy Football Team
Through years of playing fantasy football, I've run across several different kinds of owners. Usually you can tell who knows what they're doing on draft day.
From the obsessive roster changer to the person who can't keep a complete roster, there are several types of owners.
Since fantasy football's first days a few keys have been developed to tell with what kind of owner you're dealing.
Let's take a look at some signs your buddy is running a losing fantasy football team.
Picking Players off Past Successes
1 of 7This is a sure way to take your fantasy team nowhere in a hurry.
Recognizability and flash won’t get you anything in fantasy football. It’s all about producing on the field.
Guys like Chad Ochocinco and Ladanian Tomlinson aren’t going to win you any championships, yet so many fail to realize this.
Trying to Outsmart the Competition
2 of 7Among the losing strategies in fantasy football is trying to impress the competition with sleeper picks. I’m talking about the person who thought they were going to pull a fast one by drafting Tim Tebow, Randy Moss, and Carson Palmer.
One move like this is a good risk, but a roster full of these players will find you at the back of the standings.
Picking Favorite Players
3 of 7We all know that team owner who likes to pick their favorite players. Maybe it's because of college or NFL fandom. Maybe the player was much better in college.
Still, starting a team full of third stringers who went to your alma mater won’t get you any extra points. Put emotion aside when picking.
Incomplete Starting Lineups
4 of 7Nothing says a owner has given up more than missing spots in the starting lineup.
We’ve all had the embarrassing moment where we forget about a player. When half a lineup is hurt or on a bye week though, chances are that owner isn’t near the top of the standings.
Picking Random Players
5 of 7Perhaps no owner is more difficult to understand than the one who seems to pull draft picks out of a hat.
I’ve yet to determine whether this type of owner doesn’t care before the season even starts or just thinks they are that much smarter than everyone else.
What I do know is that drafting Matt Willis and Lex Hilliard won’t get you anywhere.
One Team Strategy
6 of 7We’ve all seen that owner who thinks you pick from one team. They decide they are going to start the entire Philadelphia Eagles team.
I suppose a lineup with Vick, McCoy, Jackson, Maclin, and Celek could be worse.
How does this strategy work when a team has an off week though?
Lose for Luck
7 of 7Maybe some owners are still trying to figure out that all the NFL rules don’t apply. This becomes most evident when it seems some teams are employing the same strategy as the Indianapolis Colts.
No, losing for luck won’t do you much good in fantasy football. I’m pretty sure some owners haven’t had this explained to them yet.
