Manny Pacquiao Has Nothing to Gain from Fight with Juan Manuel Marquez

Richard LangfordNov 8, 2011

Manny Pacquiao is in a no-win position. He could knockout Juan Manuel Marquez in five seconds in Las Vegas on November 12th and it will be viewed as an expected outcome.

These two have battled twice before. Those fights were as even as two fights could be. The first was a draw, and the second was won by Manny on a controversial split decision.

Despite the two previous close battles Pacquiao is expected to easily handle Marquez this time. It has been almost four years since their last fight, and Pac-Man has morphed into an unstoppable force since then.

Manny has used an improved and lethal right hand to destroy all opponents since that fight. This new addition to his arsenal is way to much for Marquez to handle and everyone realizes it.

Bodog Sports has Pac-Man listed as an overwhelming 1/11 favorite in this fight.

This leaves Pacquiao with nothing to gain from this fight, but another paycheck and a win for his record.

A knockout will add nothing to his legacy or his bolster his standing among the all-time greats. Marquez will be just another faceless opponent in a growing list of victims for Pacquiao.

It will bring a sense of closure to this series of fights, but it is closure that no one, probably even Marquez himself if he was being honest, still felt was needed.

Pacquiao will easily win this fight, bask in victory for a night, and then begin to answer endless questions about fighting Floyd Mayweather.
