WWE: 7 Ways Christian Is More Effective Away from the Title
Whiny, arrogant and full of complaints, Christian is once again a big factor on SmackDown.
Except, it's not for the reasons you may think.
Christian has gone from mid-card hero to injured list to World Heavyweight Champion to main-event mainstay over the past year.
Coming off of two less-than-memorable title reigns this summer, Christian is once again back to where he started upon his return from the injured reserve at Elimination Chamber.
He may not have the World Title anymore, but he's making more of an impact than he ever did as champion.
He's More Comfortable in This Role
1 of 7As amazing and heartwarming it was to see Christian hoist that World Heavyweight Championship high above his head for the first time at Extreme Rules, something always felt just a little off about that moment.
Whether it was the fact it felt a little forced giving him the title so soon after his real-life best friend Edge was forced to retire or that we have never seen him hold such a prestigious title in the WWE before, Christian as a high-ranking champion didn't feel right.
Unfortunately for Christian, that's how the WWE felt as well, having his lose the title only two real-time days later. From there, he entered a summer-long feud with Randy Orton over that championship, winning it back in the dirtiest way possible.
After losing the title the first time, he immediately turned heel and began his reign as the whiny, narcissistic man we see him today.
Christian as a face was fun and all, but Christian as a heel feels right. He gets to be as cocky as he wants to be while refusing to face his opponents without forcing them to jump through hoops.
His heel persona allows him to make the faces seem braver and himself more of a coward.
Strong Christian was nice, but heel Christian can make anybody hate him, which is the ultimate goal.
More Opportunity to Show His Stuff as a Tag Team Partner
2 of 7With Christian being away from the title scene, he is allowed to team up with random partners and show to the world exactly what made him so popular in the first place.
There is no denying the fact that Edge and Christian were one of the greatest tag teams in professional wrestling history. Edge may have been the more successful of the two in singles competition, but Christian was absolutely no slouch when it comes to being a tag team partner.
Having Christian show the ropes to younger superstars about how to be a premier tag team partner, something that the WWE has certainly been lacking in recent years.
Allowing somebody as well adapted in tag team wrestling as Christian lead the way for a young tag team on the rise, more teams have the opportunity to shine.
It's Better When People Aren't Suppose to Like Him
3 of 7Christian likes to call his fans his "Peeps."
As a face, being a Peep was a special thing. You were able to call yourself the Peep of one of the hottest stars and the World Champion.
As a heel, being a Peep is still cool, just not in the same way it was before.
As it is with any wrestler, face or heel, Christian has his loyal fans no matter what he is, face or heel. Being away from the championship picture gives Christian the chance to hate the fans, often times blaming them for not being a champion.
If Christian hates the Peeps, in his mind, it's because they are holding him back from being all that he thinks he can be.
Christian has this certain arrogance in himself that only works when he's losing. If he's winning, then it's just him being right about how great he is. If he's losing, his arrogance makes him seem like even more of a jerk than he already comes off to be.
Captain Charisma Goes out the Window
4 of 7Charisma is defined as compelling attractiveness or charm that inspires the devotion of others.
When Christian was fighting for the World Heavyweight Championship, he oozed that definition of charisma. He fought for what was right against Alberto Del Rio, trying to avenge his best friend Edge.
When he won the championship, he was still the same, fun-loving guy.
Without the title, his moniker has Captain Charisma is nothing more than a name he likes to call himself, which is pretty awesome.
There's nothing better than someone calling themselves something the rest of the world knows they are not.
Like Alberto Del Rio calling himself classy or Mark Henry being someone who says the working conditions are unstable due to violence, Christian being known as Captain Charisma is a joke. Not a joke where you wonder why they are doing it, but a joke that makes you actually want to LOL.
Right now, Christian is the antithesis of Captain Charisma, which makes his current character that much more compelling.
Fresh Feuds for All
5 of 7Let's face it, if Christian were the World Champion to this day, there would have only been one feud for him to go to after taking care of Randy Orton, and that would have been with Sheamus.
Wait, Christian is currently in a feud with Sheamus, how does that work?
How that works, is that unlike Orton, Christian doesn't need to hold the title in order to enter a feud that means something.
But Orton is feuding with Cody Rhodes? Doesn't that count?
Absolutely not. Rhodes has looked weak in this feud thus far, basically burying his build in the process. Orton has the obsession of needing to be the top dog even if he doesn't hold a title. Christian does not need the World Title to enter into a feud with someone as powerful as Sheamus.
Christian feuding with Sheamus makes total sense. Not only is this a way for Sheamus to have something to do until he finally gets his title shot, but it also make Christian appear credible as well, fighting one of the biggest faces the WWE has to offer.
After Sheamus, who knows where Christian will go? Whoever it is, however, has a far better shot of looking legitimate, even if it's in defeat.
Ability to Put Younger Stars over
6 of 7Who better to have younger talent look up to or battle than a man who has seen and done it all?
Christian presents the ultimate opportunity for any young man who is trying to make his way through to the main event scene.
Look at what he has already done for Alberto Del Rio. He made Del Rio look amazing during their bout, and helped him elevate his name and is now the WWE Champion.
Better yet, look at the crew he has been hanging out with lately. Cody Rhodes and Wade Barrett, two of the fastest rising and most promising men on SmackDown. During the lockout angle, Christian began associating himself with those two, continuing to do so to this day.
Rhodes was already the Intercontinental Champion before hanging out with Christian, but it wasn't until their friendship formed that more and more people started to believe in Rhodes. Barrett has been on a huge roll lately, thanks mostly to his association to Christian.
Also, Christian has the chance to make his opponents look great, much like he did with Del Rio. It's no secret that Christian can put on a great match, no matter who he is facing. Put him in a match against the likes of Daniel Bryan or even Sin Cara and watch their stocks rise to new heights.
Ability to Create a Monster Stable
7 of 7This one was in the works for a while, but it may have died down a bit. However, it is far from over.
As previously mentioned, during the lockout, Christian started hanging out with Dolph Ziggler, Jack Swagger, Barrett and Rhodes. Many hoped that this was the beginning of the first monster stable in years that prominently featured already established stars.
Ziggler and Swagger don't seem to be involved anymore, but Barrett and Rhodes are still hanging out with Christian, which means that the stable idea is far from over.
Having somebody as distinguished and veteran savvy as Christian leading a stable is one best decisions the WWE could make, if they make it.
What about him winning the title as the leader of the stable? That happens all the time.
Yes, it does. Which is exactly why Christian shouldn't be holding the title if the stable is going to be built. Building a stable while holding a world title makes you seem weak and cowardly.
Christian does that just fine on his own, so making him appear even weaker and more cowardly would be a mistake.
Christian leading a stable, being surrounded around young, up-and-coming stars as Rhodes and Barrett, can only lead to success for all three.
