NBA Fans: Join the "FanOut"

David HeebNov 7, 2011

Tensions run high as the NBA lockout enters day 1,415. Well, it hasn't really been going on that long, but it sure feels like it.

As the owners and players argue over how divide billions of dollars, some of us "average working people" are sick and tired of it.  Instead of watching millionaires argue with billionaires, some NBA fans have a better idea.

Why not organize a "Fanout?"

I wrote an article earlier today, and I had a guy by the name of Russel respond to my story with his idea for a Fanout.  He even posted this link with the petition.

His premise was pretty simple: We need to remind these guys why they have over $4 billion to fight over in the first place.  If the fans simply stopped going to NBA games and stopped buying NBA merchandise, there wouldn't be as much money to go around.

Of course, the NBA generates revenue in other ways—like TV contracts, advertising, internet—but Russel is right about one thing, if the fans don't attend the games, then that would take away the vast majority of the NBA's basketball related income.

So instead listen up, Derek Fisher and hear me out, David Stern.  We are sick and tired of this.  We love basketball, and we want to watch our favorite players.

We want to see if Kobe can win his sixth ring.  We want to see if LeBron can win his first.

We want to see if Derek Rose has taken that next step, or is Chris Paul still the point guard king of the NBA?

What do 'Melo and Stoudemire have up their sleeve in New York?  Will Durant and the Thunder climb the next rung on the ladder and make it to the NBA Finals?

And what about the defending champs?  Will the Mavs make another run at it, or was last year's team a one hit wonder?

We want answers to all of these questions.  So NBA owners and players, you've been put on notice.  You have until Wednesday to make a deal, or we're walking out.
