LSU vs Alabama: 3 Scenarios That'll Lead to a BCS Championship Rematch

Randy ChambersNov 7, 2011

After all of the hype, the "Game of the Century" is now over and has left us with a lot to think about. LSU ended up winning the game over Alabama 9-6 and is still ranked No. 1 in the country, with a great possibility to reach the National Championship game. Alabama surprisingly dropped just one spot in the rankings to No. 3.

The latest BCS Poll has left many fans wondering what would have to happen for a rematch of Alabama-LSU in the National Championship?

Here are a few scenarios that could match these two teams up for a rematch.

Alabama Wins out and Oklahoma State Loses One Game

1 of 3

Since Alabama is the No. 3 team in the country, they would only have to jump the team that's ahead of them, which is Oklahoma State. The Cowboys still have to play a feisty team in Texas Tech, and have a huge matchup against Oklahoma.

Of course, this scenario would probably mean the Sooners would finish with one loss as well, and it would be interesting to see who the computers like more.

It is possible the Crimson Tide would need a bit more help than this scenario provides in order to face LSU again in the title game.

Alabama Wins out and Oklahoma State and Oklahoma Lose

2 of 3

Alabama can hope for a loss to Oklahoma State during the last week of the season as they play Oklahoma. That would eliminate the Cowboys from the picture.

Also, a Oklahoma loss next weekend, against a strong offensive team like Baylor, would do the trick as well. Maybe the loss of Ryan Broyles has a bigger impact on the Sooners' offense than most expect.

This would get rid of both of Alabama's main competition, and the Crimson Tide should be able to jump Stanford based off strength of schedule.

Alabama Wins out and Oklahoma State and Stanford Lose

3 of 3

This is the most likely possibility, as Stanford could lose this weekend to Oregon and Oklahoma State could lose against Oklahoma.

Alabama's strength of schedule will be more than enough to jump an undefeated Boise State team and move up to No. 2.

The only problem with this scenario is that it would leave Oklahoma in competition with Alabama for that last spot in the National Championship.

Which resume would be more impressive? Well, that's up for the voters to decide.

But at least Alabama would have a shot.
