Why Houston Nutt Doesn't Deserve to Stay at Ole Miss
The Rebels are 0-6 in conference play this year.
That won't get it done in the SEC.
Things are about to change mighty quick in the South, and Ole Miss cannot, and will not, allow their football team to keep losing like this.
Houston Nutt, who came in with great success in his first two years on the job, is reportedly on his way out at the end of the year.
ClarionLedger.com is reporting that the coach has, in fact, been told it will be his last year with the program.
This is not a huge surprise considering the minimal success in the last two years, but there is even more to it than that.
There is reportedly pressure on athletic director Pete Boone to step down from his post, which will certainly spell an end for Nutt.
With the SEC on its way to super conference status, it would only make sense for a new athletic director to bring in the coach of his choosing to start the new era of football.
Nutt hasn't done nearly enough to warrant safety in this time of change.
The former Arkansas head coach didn't win a single division title let alone a conference championship during his tenure in Oxford. His stay in Fayetteville, while double the amount of time, included three trips to the SEC Championship game.
Ole Miss has won just one SEC game in its last 13 attempts.
The program is on the verge of turning in one the worst seasons in its 120-year history.
Nutt is probably only still around because the school is deciding on what to do with Boone. If there were stability at the top, we would have likely seen Nutt's time ended already. Instead, he'll likely be kept until they make the decision on Boone.
Either way, we expect to see Nutt printing out resumes in the very near future.
Losing isn't tolerated in the SEC; Nutt knows that better than most.
His time with the Rebels was short, but even he couldn't argue with them going in a different direction at season's end.
