Kansas City Chiefs No Longer Invincible at Arrowhead Stadium

Farzin VousoughianNov 10, 2011

The Kansas City Chiefs were known to win a lot of their home games for the longest time. Many people would pick the Chiefs to win, just because of the location of the game.

Even though Arrowhead Stadium consists of hosting an electrifying crowd, the wins don't always come for the Chiefs in their home games.

If you include Kansas City's postseason game against the Baltimore Ravens from last season, the Chiefs have lost four of their last six postseason games, dating back to January 2nd, 2011 of last season. The Chiefs have been outscored in those six games, 170-72.

Including the postseason loss from last season, the Chiefs are 13-24 in their home games since 2007.

Arrowhead Stadium should still be considered as one of the toughest places to play for visiting opponents. However, it isn't as difficult as it was before to leave Arrowhead Stadium with a win.

The Chiefs have been blown out twice so far this season. The Buffalo Bills routed the Chiefs on opening week, 41-7. The winless Miami Dolphins came into Kansas City and they got more than what they wanted. They destroyed the Chiefs, preventing them from having possession of the football in the end zone by beating the Chiefs, 31-3.

There was some Arrowhead "magic" that returned on Monday Night Football last week against the San Diego Chargers. But relying on "magic," or perhaps luck, won't win you games every week.

The Chiefs are very fortunate to still be in first place in the AFC West right now with a 4-4 record. Having home games is not going to help the Chiefs find a way to win the division. It has to come down to the Chiefs playing good football.

Outside of the home-field advantage the Chiefs were used to having, the Chiefs have seen a big decrease in attendance as ticket prices have rose in the past couple of years.

Anyone who has watched Chiefs games on television has noticed that the second and third level has many empty seats. This was the case last season when the Chiefs hosted their first postseason game in seven years.

Visiting opponents should still prepare for a loud crowd when they come to Kansas City, but it should not intimidate them. The Chiefs are no longer invincible at home and teams are finding ways to beat them in their own sacred home.
