Premier League: Winners and Losers of Gameweek 11
Although this gameweek didn't exactly provide the same thrills and spills we got last weekend, there was still plenty of activity for us to feed on before the dreaded international break.
Arsenal seemed to be the only top-six side (even though they're seventh) that got past their opposition with ease, while Manchester United, Chelsea and Manchester City all scraped out wins.
On the other hand, Liverpool couldn't even get three points in the first place.
But, the real action this weekend happened at the bottom of the table rather than the top. Wolves and Wigan faced off at the Molineux in what was a battle of two relegation-threatened teams, with Mick McCarthy's side coming out on top for a much-needed three points.
Without further ado, here are the winners and losers of the Premier League's Gameweek 11.
Winner: North London
1 of 7Both North London clubs continued their excellent form this weekend, as Arsenal brushed past West Brom with a 3-0 victory and Tottenham defeated Fulham, 3-1.
Both clubs had slow starts to the season and endured some crushing losses, but since then, they've flourished, enjoying consistent wins week in and week out.
While Spurs' form has surprised many this season, the new-look Arsenal squad finally seem to be gelling and are in superb form as well.
There's something in the water in North London...
Winner: Swansea City
2 of 7Newly promoted Swansea City have had a surprisingly positive start to the club's first ever Premier League campaign.
The Welsh outfit have been undefeated at home and have continued to thrive, playing the same attacking football they played in the championship last season.
So, for a small club like Swansea, the 0-0 stalemate away to Liverpool was a huge result. To go to a place like Anfield and grab any points is a difficult thing to do for any club, let alone Swansea.
If Brendan Rodgers' side continue to impress, they could prove doubters wrong and prolong their Premier League dream for another season.
Winner: Queens Park Rangers
3 of 7Although QPR fell 3-2 to league leaders Manchester City on Saturday, they were the first team this season to give City a real run for their money.
In fact, after Bothroyd's goal put the home side up 1-0, it was the first time City had ever been behind in a match this season. The lead didn't last very long, but it was nice to see a side that didn't let the mega-rich Manchester outfit boss them around the pitch.
Although City seemed to have been given a reality check on Saturday by QPR, Premier League followers are still waiting to see who can actually defeat Roberto Mancini's side (hint: it won't be Manchester United).
Winner: Bolton Wanderers
4 of 7After a horrific start to the season, Bolton Wanderers finally got a break with a whopping 5-0 victory over Stoke on Sunday.
There was a sense of revenge about the victory after Owen Coyle's side were beaten 5-0 by Stoke in last season's FA Cup semifinal.
Although this was only the Wanderers' third win in 11 matches, could this be the beginning of a turn of luck for Bolton?
Loser: Anfield
5 of 7Anfield isn't remotely close to the fortress it used to be for Liverpool.
Although the Reds are undefeated at home this season, they've drawn four times out of six fixtures there—three of those draws coming against Sunderland, Norwich and Swansea, teams that the star-studded Liverpool side should be beating.
Kenny's "army" haven't done nearly enough so far this season to prove that they deserve a top-four spot, let alone the title ambitions that his players are eying.
Only a few of Dalglish's million-pound signings are actually performing well, and it's too far into the season to use the excuse that they "haven't gelled yet."
Loser: Wes Brown
6 of 7It was a good laugh to see Wes Brown's name on the scoresheet for Manchester United again—only he's playing for Sunderland now.
The former United defender put the ball in his own net to score the only goal in Manchester United's 1-0 win over Sunderland—quite an ironic sight at Old Trafford.
Maybe the Englishman hasn't quite gotten it down that he's a Black Cats player just yet, or he had a lapse in short term memory.
Loser: Stoke and Their Europa League Dream
7 of 7Although Tony Pulis says he's loving every second of Stoke's Europa League adventure, it doesn't seem to be doing them much good in the Premier League.
The Potters are cranking out good results in Europe, but the thinness of the squad and fatigue of the players mean Stoke have endured some heavy losses domestically after playing their European football in midweek.
The scorelines really do show: 4-0 to Sunderland earlier this season and now 5-0 to Bolton, two fixtures that came just a few days after Europa League matches.
The players are going to have to start getting used to this, or else Stoke's Premier League season could be in serious trouble.
