Ravens vs. Steelers: Roethlisberger Will Outshine Flacco in Statement Game

Justin WeltonNov 6, 2011

Pittsburgh Steelers quarterback Ben Roethlisberger has owned Baltimore Ravens quarterback Joe Flacco throughout their career. Flacco has only defeated a Roethlisberger-led Steelers team once—and that happened earlier this season.

Roethlisberger has been hot in recent weeks, and his streak will continue in a big way on Sunday Night Football, as he will lead the Steelers to a crucial AFC North victory.

Roethlisberger has 11 touchdowns to two interceptions in the past four games. Flacco, on the other hand, has been unimpressive. With eight touchdowns and six interceptions on the season, Flacco has regressed in 2011 substantially. In the past four games, Flacco has thrown only one touchdown to four interceptions.

These two quarterbacks are heading in complete opposite directions.

The overall play of their team has resulted directly from their quarterback. Flacco has been awful, and the Ravens have been struggling, while Roethlisberger has been lights out, and the Steelers have been soaring.

Quarterback play is crucial in the NFL. Roethlisberger, Aaron Rodgers, Drew Brees, Peyton Manning and Tom Brady have all won Super Bowls recently. There is no question that these quarterbacks are the best in the league.

Flacco is a top-10 NFL quarterback, but he isn’t on the same level as Roethlisberger. With the Ravens superstars on the latter side of their career, Flacco may never win a Super Bowl in a Ravens uniform.

Say what you want about Big Ben—he just knows how to get the job done. Roethlisberger has excelled in the big moment, and Flacco has not. Even though this isn’t the postseason, Flacco comes up small underneath the lights, and the Steelers will rise to the occasion for the big divisional victory.
