BCS Rankings Week 11: Boise State Deserves to Be Ranked Higher Than Alabama
Alabama would most likely kill Boise State head-to-head, but the Broncos still deserve to be ranked ahead of the Crimson Tide in the latest BCS rankings.
The vast majority of college football fans can’t stand the BCS. In a perfect world, a playoff would decide a national champion every year. This world isn’t perfect, though, as fans must not only ignore the lack of a tournament-style finish, but continue to remind themselves what is truly a fair championship matchup under the BCS.
It has truly brainwashed people. Instead of looking at a team’s record—the primary means of determining which team advances where in every other sport—college football analysts break down unnecessary junk like strength of schedule. If the Green Bay Packers finished 11-5 and the Chicago Bears 10-6, no one is arguing the winner of the NFC North, yet it happens every single year in the NCAA.
Alabama defeated now-No. 12 Penn State 26-11 this season, handing the Nittnay Lions their only loss. They dominated SEC foes Arkansas 38-14 and Florida 38-10, who were ranked No. 14 and No. 12, respectively, at the time of the contests. A 9-6 overtime loss to the best team in the country in LSU stands out on the schedule as Alabama’s only letdown.
Boise State’s lone respectable win came against a No. 19-ranked Georgia team. Alabama’s 2011 trophy case spotlights a trio of major victories while the Broncos’ is nearly empty. Despite that fact, the Crimson Tide still have a blemish on their record while Boise State does not.
It would be absurd to rank Alabama over Boise State. If the Broncos run the table, they deserve to face off against LSU in the national championship if Oklahoma State and Stanford get knocked off.
If you believe that the Crimson Tide deserve that title bid and you’re anti-BCS at the same time, you’re a hypocrite, because you use an argument featured by the system while hating on that same system simultaneously.
