Ryan Broyles Injury: Update on Oklahoma Star's Status
Oklahoma's star wide receiver Ryan Broyles limped off the field in today's game against Texas A&M with an apparent knee injury.
The severity of the injury is not yet known, but Broyles was very emotional on the sidelines when talking to coaches and trainers. There has been no official word, but it appears to be a pretty serious injury.
Immediate Impact on Rankings
Oklahoma is ranked sixth in the country right now and may move up after a dominating win against the Aggies.
No. 1 LSU and No. 2 Alabama are about to square off, so at least one top five top spot is guaranteed to open up.
However, voters may punish the Sooners if it turns out Broyles is done for the season. He has been a huge part of their offense, so his absence could raise some doubts about OU's passing attack.
I expect them to move up a spot, but they won't leapfrog any undefeated teams in Sunday's BCS poll.
Bowl Devastation Scale
On a scale of 1 to 10, this registers as an 8. Broyles' injury will have a major effect on the Sooners' bowl prospects.
Coming into today, Broyles was third in the nation in receptions (81), second in receiving yards (1070) and tied for third in receiving touchdowns (10).
Broyles was a catalyst of OU's success, so his absence could be devastating. They will still play in a BCS bowl, possibly the national championship game.
However, I don't think the Sooners could beat LSU or Alabama without their best offensive weapon.
Timeline for Return
There's no timeline for his return right now, but more news will be made available shortly.
