NASCAR Sprint Cup Series: Top Drivers to Have Driven No. 10
After yesterday's announcement that Danica Patrick will drive the No. 10 Go Daddy Chevrolet next year, I wanted to take a look at the top drivers to have ever driven the No. 10 in the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series.
I wanted to do the top 10, but to be honest that would have been a stretch.
Not many drivers have had success with the number.
The last time we saw the No. 10 on the track was in the 2008 season, when A.J. Allmendinger, Patrick Carpentier, Mike Wallace and Terry Labonte all shared time in the seat.
From 1975, the first year for the No. 10, until 1988, no one drove the number in consecutive years.
Ricky Rudd
1 of 4Ricky Rudd first drove the No. 10 in 1975. He only made four starts that year with the number.
He's most known for driving the No. 10 car from 1994-1999, during which he made 192 starts in the No. 10, with six wins. The only year he didn't win a race was his last in the number in 1999.
Rudd finished in the top 10 in points in three consecutive years from 1994-1996.
His biggest accomplishment in the number was winning the 1997 Brickyard 400.
Derrike Cope
2 of 4Derrike Cope drove the car No. 10 from 1989-1992.
He didn't have a ton of success with the car number, but his best came in the 1990 season. He won two races that year, including winning the Daytona 500.
Cope made 106 starts in those four seasons, with his best points finish being 18th in 1990.
Johnny Benson
3 of 4The former NASCAR Busch Grand National Series and NASCAR Camping World Truck Series champion drove the No. 10 car from 2000-2003.
He made 136 starts in those four seasons, with his best season coming in 2001 with an 11th-place finish in the points.
Benson landed in victory lane once in those four years, in 2002.
He finished in the top 15 in points in 2000 and 2001.
Scott Riggs
4 of 4Scott Riggs drove the No. 10 from 2004-2007. He actually replaced Johnny Benson in this ride.
Riggs made 133 starts in the No. 10, but he failed to reach victory lane.
He finished with four top fives and 15 top 10s.
His best season came in 2006, when he had eight top-10 finishes and ended the year 20th in the points standings.
