Week 9 Start 'Em, Sit 'Em: Matt Forte and Other RBs to Start

John RozumNov 4, 2011

RBs in fantasy football these days outside of Adrian Peterson are almost hit-and-miss each week. With the NFL evolving into a passing league you think more of them would get more yards on receptions, but thus has not been the case.

That being said, here are four RBs to start in Week 9 that may sway you from sitting on the fence come game day.

Matt Forte, Bears (at Eagles)

Although Matt Forte is a start each week, he's bound to wear down sooner than later since he is Chicago's offense.

And you can expect the Eagles defense to really focus on shutting him down, which will happen, but not before fantasy owners are content.

Philly's defense has improved, but they're not quite dominant just yet. Forte will have a solid yardage total and score one or two TDs before the Eagles pull away. Forte is just too good to completely shut down and Mike Martz is too good of an offensive coordinator to blank for a full 60 minutes.

Willis McGahee, Broncos (at Raiders)

Broncos RB Willis McGahee has quickly become a revived star in Denver. Sure all the attention is going toward Tim Tebow, but at the heart of their offense is McGahee.

The Broncos rank No. 8 in rushing offense, and this week they get a Raiders defense that allows almost 120 rushing yards per game. Not to mention you can expect McGahee to have some receiving yards as Tebow lacks the ability to connect downfield.

If Denver has any success in this game it will come from McGahee, so if he's on your team, plan on starting him because Week 9 in Oakland is a more favorable matchup than most cynics believe.

Brandon Jacobs, Giants (at Patriots)

With Giants RB Ahmad Bradshaw listed as doubtful according to Ian Begley of ESPN, he may not suit up against the Pats this week. Therefore, expect fellow Brahma Bull Brandon Jacobs is going to receive the majority of the carries.

New England may have a decent rush defense, but that's only because they lack a pass rush as well as a pass defense. In turn, offenses don't bother running the rock against them. As for the Giants, they rank No. 4 in pass offense which will set up their ground game nicely, especially on the road.

If you happen to start Jacobs, don't expect him to produce early on. New York will need to throw often to not only score, but keep pace with Tom Brady and Company. However, in any short-yardage situations is where he'll be most effective.

Darren Sproles, Saints (vs. Buccaneers)

According to the official website of the New Orleans Saints, rookie RB Mark Ingram is out this week against Tampa Bay.

That said, RB Darren Sproles should get your fantasy start this week because he's not only coach Sean Payton's best option, but he's a dual-threat back.

On the year Sproles has 694 total yards, which is almost 90 total yards per game. He also has scored four TDs, and caught 51 passes. Regardless of what Tampa's defensive game plan is, Sproles will get his because New Orleans is too prolific of an offense to slow down.

St. Louis bested them because of turnovers, therefore, anticipate a lot of carries/receptions from Sproles as it's the safest route in preventing Brees from becoming interception-prone.
