UFC 140: Power Ranking Jon Jones' 5 Greatest Knockouts
At UFC 128, Jones won the light heavyweight title from Mauricio "Shogun" Rua via third round TKO. In the process, he became the first fighter to stop Shogun with strikes.
Prior to that, Jones had finishes over Brandon Vera, Vladimir Matyushenko, Ryan Bader and others.
So far in his career, Jon Jones has eight finishes by (T)KO, so let's take a quick look at his top five.
5. Carlos Eduardo at Battle Cage Xtreme 4
1 of 5In Jones second professional fight, he faced off against Carlos Eduardo just one week after his first professional victory.
Until reaching the UFC, this would be the longest fight Jones would ever be in.
However, it ended pretty similarly to the one before it.
For the knockout, jump to 9:15.
4. Brandon Vera at UFC on Versus 1
2 of 5At the first ever UFC on Versus event, Jon Jones headlined the card opposite Brandon Vera.
In the first round, Jones ended up in Vera's guard, normally somewhere that one might consider a safe position from ground and pound.
It wasn't so.
Jones landed a huge elbow—which broke Vera's orbital bone—and from there it was a downhill ride.
Vera rolled over and turtled up, and Jones teed off until the fight was called.
3. Vladimir Matyushenko at UFC on Versus 2
3 of 5At the second Versus event held by the UFC, Jon Jones headlined the card opposite a veteran of MMA, Vladimir Matyushenko.
At the time, this was the toughest test Jones had ever faced, and he passed with flying colors.
Jones took down Matyushenko moments into the first round, and proceeded to move to a mounted crucifix position.
Once he got there, he landed multiple unanswered elbows to the head of Matyushenko, and the fight was over.
2. Ryan Verrett at USFL: War in the Woods 3
4 of 5In Jon Jones fourth professional fight, he faced off against Ryan Verrett.
As the round started, Jones connected on a right hand and dropped Verrett. He began to celebrate, until realizing that Verrett wasn't out.
But he was soon enough.
1. Mauricio "Shogun" Rua at UFC 128
5 of 5At UFC 128, Jon Jones took on the lethal striker, Mauricio "Shogun" Rua, with the UFC light heavyweight title on the line.
Many people thought this was too much too soon for Jones, and then there were others who said that Jones would walk through Shogun.
Well, Jones walked through Shogun, and was never in danger at all.
In the third round, he stopped Rua with a body shot and a knee to the head, and that was it.
Jones was the youngest champion in UFC history.
