BCS Rankings 2011: 5 Games That Will Make You Remember the 5th of November

Eric BowmanNov 3, 2011

Remember, remember the fifth of November.

You know the rest of the line about gunpowder and treason, but as far as college football goes, this Saturday will be remembered for some fantastic games.

Several marquee matchups take place on November 5th, and they will all have an impact on the BCS.

Here are five games that will certainly make you remember the fifth of November.

No. 1 LSU at No. 2 Alabama

Easily the biggest game of the year, the Crimson Tide will have their hands full hosting the Tigers. Both teams have played tough opponents this year, but the Tigers have proven they can win on the big stage and on the road.

Every college football fan will be watching on Saturday night to see if Alabama can claim the top spot from LSU. This game is huge, and so many people are talking about it, especially on Twitter.

The losing team's fans will certainly need that extra hour because their dreams of reaching the BCS National Title will be over.

The winner shouldn't have any problem running the table and becoming the sixth straight SEC team to play in the championship game.

There are a slew of great story lines in this game, including Nick Saban vs. Les Miles, whether or not A.J. McCarron can win the big game, which defense proves to be the best and if LSU continues to play two quarterbacks.

I know where I'll be on Saturday night, and I'm sure you'll be in the same spot, even if you despise the SEC. LSU vs. Alabama is a can't-miss game, and a great way to spend a Saturday night.

No. 14 Kansas State at No. 3 Oklahoma State

The Wildcats are in desperate need of a victory after being blown out by Oklahoma last weekend. Unfortunately, they face the difficult task of playing at Oklahoma State.

The Cowboys have outscored their opponents 399-212, and the chances that Kansas State will be competitive on Saturday night are very slim. The Wildcats were off to a great start, but they're coming back to Earth having had to face such tough opponents.

Despite being ranked third in the BCS, not many people are talking about the Cowboys. That's okay with them because they know they will soon get some respect.

Oklahoma State could easily win out and play in the title game, but that won't be easy as they still have to play their archrival in Oklahoma.

Looking-ahead Tweet:

No. 9 South Carolina at No. 7 Arkansas

The Gamecocks control their own destiny in the SEC East, which means they have to win out to repeat as division champs.

They took a major hit when Marcus Lattimore injured his knee and was lost for the season, but the Gamecocks still have the talent to win in the SEC.

The Razorbacks, on the other hand, need a sound victory on Saturday, as they've struggled big-time against Vanderbilt and Ole Miss in the last couple of weeks.

Playing back at home will greatly help the Razorbacks, as this is a chance for them to prove they're a legit Top 10 team.

In fact, both teams need to prove they belong in the Top 10. CBS Sports' Bryan Fischer was asked on Twitter if he thought SEC was super strong because of four teams being in the Top 10.

The pressure is on for each team, which is what makes this such an enticing matchup. Should the Gamecocks lose, their hopes of winning the division are likely gone, and if the Razorbacks lose, their dreams of a BCS bowl will come to an end.

Texas A&M at No. 6 Oklahoma

The Oklahoma Sooners have a chance to prove they're back on track with a big win over Texas A&M. However, the Aggies have a shot at ruining the Sooners' aspirations of a national title.

A year ago, the Aggies embarrassed the Sooners, which is why Oklahoma is out for revenge. They expected to be undefeated entering this game, but a fluke loss puts the Sooners in a must-win situation for the rest of the year.

Texas A&M believed it would be in the BCS hunt at this point of the season, but after suffering its third loss of the season last week, the Aggies' sights are now set on spoiling everything for the Sooners.

Even though Texas A&M is no longer ranked, Saturday will be a great game because both teams have very skilled offenses. The question is, which defense steps up and makes the big plays?

Impressive stat Tweet:

No. 15 Michigan at Iowa

The Wolverines have lost to the Hawkeyes two straight years, and Iowa is hoping to make it three, which is something that has never happened.

Michigan has played on the road twice this season, and its only tough road game ended with a loss. Now the Wolverines must take on a Hawkeyes team that will be extremely motivated to get a victory.

Yes, Iowa fell to Minnesota last weekend, but the Hawkeyes are back and at home, and they will be prepared to battle the Wolverines. Even Wolverines head coach Brady Hoke knows Iowa will be a challenge. Per Mark Snyder of the Detroit Free Press.

Don't be surprised if Iowa pulls the upset on Saturday afternoon. After all, Michigan has been known to choke, especially in games they should easily win. I know everyone remembers this.

This is a game Michigan should have no problem winning, but it's going to be closer than most people think.

These five games will have people talking about November 5th all season long. A lot is riding on these games, as several teams have to win in order to stay alive in the BCS.

Saturday will not be an ordinary college football weekend. Expect lots of drama and to be on the edge of your seat all day long.
